Last night, Mitchells Island RFS held its AGM. Congratulations to all the members who took on positions, and thank you to everyone for your continued dedication and service to the community. 🚒👏

Over the past year, members completed numerous training courses and weekly brigade training nights, contributing hundreds of volunteer training hours across the brigade to ensure members remain ready to respond when the community needs us most. 🚒💪

🚒🔥 10/05/26 At 5:01 PM, Mitchell’s Island 1 responded to reports of a bush fire in Old Bar. Old Bar crews arrived on scene first, and Mitchell’s Island 1 was stood down as no further assistance was required. Crews then returned to station.

At 5:20 PM, Mitchell’s Island 1 was responded from station to reports of a bush fire at Rainbow Flat. While en route, crews were called off, with no further assistance required.

Shortly after being stood down, Mitchell’s Island 1 responded to further reports of a bush fire at Dyers Crossing. Crews arrived on scene and confirmed that a landowner was conducting a pile burn. Mitchell’s Island 1 then returned to station

🚒🔥 07/05/26 @ 11:50 — Mitchell’s Island 1 was activated to reports of a structural fire at Wallabi Point. NSW Police arrived a short time later and confirmed there was no structural fire. A stop message was then sent out, and crews returned home.

All our thoughts are with Marine Rescue in Ballina this morning after two of their own were tragically killed last night whilst trying to reach a stricken yacht.
We send our love to their families and friends at this time.

With the temperatures dropping, home fireplaces are being lit.

There’s a few things those with wood fire places need to do each year to prevent chimney fires and keep safe:

🔥Keep the area around the fireplace clear of flammable materials

🔥Install a fireproof guard/screen to prevent children from getting too close
