🌙 Meet Tasmania’s Night Shift: Possums!

Tasmania is home to the Common Brushtail Possum & Common Ringtail Possum.

Nocturnal and tree-loving, these climbers spend their nights feeding on leaves, fruits, and flowers 🍃
Joeys grow safely in mum’s pouch before hitching a ride on her back 👶

Brushtails are bold and solitary, while ringtails are smaller, shy, and build leafy nests 🌿

👀 Hear rustling after dark? You might have a possum neighbour watching you! 🌙

Tasmanian Peregrine Falcon 🌿

Fast, fierce, and incredibly precise, the Tasmanian Peregrine Falcon is one of the fastest animals on Earth, reaching diving speeds of up to 300 km/h. With remarkable eyesight, it can spot prey from over a kilometre away before striking with speed and power.

Found nesting on cliffs, tall trees, and even buildings, this rare bird of prey plays an important role as a top predator in Tasmania’s ecosystems. Seeing one up close is a true wildlife privilege. 💚

There’s nothing quite like a wombat cuddle session in the sunshine☀️

Flynn and Nyla were spotted soaking up the warmth recently, snuggled up together like it was the only thing on their to-do list 🥰 Slow, sleepy, and completely content, just how wombats do it best

Come and see these gentle little legends for yourself at Trowunna Wildlife Sanctuary and experience the magic of Tasmania’s wildlife up close.

We’ll see you soon🌿

💙 Men’s Health Week 💙

This week is a reminder to check in, not just on your physical health, but your mental wellbeing too.

Life can get busy, stressful and overwhelming at times, and it’s important to remember that looking after yourself matters. Whether it’s getting outdoors, talking with mates, taking a break, or reaching out for support, small steps can make a big difference.

Here at Trowunna, we’re lucky to see every day how powerful nature and wildlife can be for wellbeing. Slowing down, connecting with the environment, and spending time outdoors is good for the soul. 🌿🐾

To all the dads, brothers, mates, grandads, sons and carers in our community, take care of yourselves and each other. 💙

A huge thank you to Deloraine High School for their amazing donation of handmade wildlife boxes! 🪚

These boxes will provide safe nesting spaces for native wildlife and support our ongoing conservation work. Community support like this makes a real difference, and it's fantastic to see local students helping protect Tasmania's unique wildlife.

Thank you for your generosity and hard work! 💚

Tasmania’s beautiful Green Rosella is one of our favourite native visitors at Trowunna! Found nowhere else in the world, these colourful birds are an important part of our local ecosystems.🌿

Unfortunately, introduced species like the Laughing Kookaburra can impact native wildlife by competing for food and preying on smaller animals and birds.

🌱Protecting Tasmania’s unique wildlife means understanding the difference between native and introduced species and appreciating just how special our endemic animals truly are!
