St John Ambulance Victoria St John Ambulance Victoria is a charity working towards the Service of Humanity We exist to help those who are in sickness, distress, suffering or danger.

St John Ambulance Victoria is a charity in the Australian community working for the Service of Humanity. A trusted and reassuring presence in the Victorian community for more than 136 years, St John Ambulance Victoria is a work of the Order of St John in Australia. We look to the future as a vibrant and strong organisation which exists to help those in our community who are in sickness, distress,

suffering or danger. Our desire is to serve the community further, deliver the best care possible and be a place where people are inspired to volunteer and work. We support our charitable work through a strong and diversified commercial operation, operating as a certified Social Enterprise. All our earnings from our paid programs – including First Aid training and the presence of our ‘vollies in green’ at public events – goes towards life-saving community programs. Our activities and programs build resilience in and give confidence to the communities which we serve.

Recently, St John Ambulance Victoria volunteers from Maroondah and Ranges divisions partnered with Wandin CFA to deliver immersive, scenario-based training designed to replicate real-life rescue environments.

From multi-casualty motor vehicle collisions to structural collapse and firefighter down scenarios, volunteers played a critical role in bringing realism, clinical accuracy and complexity to every exercise.

Through detailed planning, casualty simulation, and on-the-ground clinical guidance, our volunteers helped CFA crews practise vital, time-critical interventions, including haemorrhage control, CPR, and coordinated trauma response, all under pressure.

This type of training strengthens inter-agency collaboration and ensures that when real emergencies happen, responders are equipped with the skills, confidence and teamwork needed to save lives.

We are proud of our volunteers who continue to deliver high-quality training that supports our emergency service partners and strengthens community safety across Victoria.

Two cardiac arrests. Ten minutes apart. One volunteer who stepped forward when it mattered most. 💛

During last year’s Melbourne major running event, Drew found himself supporting one cardiac arrest response before helping save the life of another runner just moments later at the finish line.

Working alongside fellow volunteer Svetlana and emergency responders, Drew performed CPR and helped resuscitate half-marathon runner Lewis after he collapsed metres after crossing the finish line.

Now, during National Volunteer Week, Drew is reflecting not on recognition, but on the power of teamwork, community and being there for someone in their most critical moment.

“You’d be surprised what you’re capable of when the moment comes,” Drew said.

Stories like Drew’s & Svetlana's are a powerful reminder that our volunteers are everyday people doing extraordinary things across Victoria every single day.

Thank you to all our incredible volunteers this National Volunteer Week. 👏

Reconciliation starts with listening, learning and walking together; it is a shared responsibility, and one we continue to learn from every day.

During National Reconciliation Week, we reflect on our role in supporting stronger relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, grounded in respect, understanding and care for community.

Together, we can help create safer, more inclusive spaces for all.
