📚✨ BOOK WEEK PARADE!

What a morning! We were so impressed to see our students, staff and families get into the Book Week spirit, with so many incredible costumes bringing favourite characters to life.

Of course, it wouldn’t be our Book Week Parade without the annual staff performance! This year, the staff transformed into the characters of Shrek! 💚 Did you know that Shrek was actually a book before it became the movie we all know and love? A huge thank you to Mrs Jeffers and Mr Beever for being such good sports and completely committing to their roles!

We also loved welcoming our friends from Panorama Kinder, who joined us for a few laps of the parade and showed off their fantastic Book Week costumes.

After the parade, the fun continued with a whole school scavenger hunt! Students had to work out which staff member was dressed as which character, with definitely a few tricky ones to uncover!

A huge thank you to our family community for coming along to support the parade and for all the time, effort and creativity that went into helping put costumes together. We know Book Week costumes don’t magically appear overnight!

Finally, a very big thank you to Nerinda and our Library Captains for organising and running today’s parade and helping make it such a fantastic celebration of books and reading.

We LOVE our Book Week Parade! 💚📚✨

Our Year 2 students have been busy taking their ‘Blast from the Past’ Inquiry learning beyond the classroom over the past two weeks!

First stop was Como House, where students stepped back into the 1800s to discover what daily life was like for children and families of the past. With the help of costumed educators, they explored the grand house, learnt about 1800s etiquette, experienced life as a servant and investigated how homes, technology and everyday life have changed over time. They even put their skills to the test solving a historical mystery and playing traditional games including croquet, quoits and skipping!

More recently, our Year 2s became Local History Detectives, setting off on foot to explore the history right on our doorstep. Their impressive 6.65km walking journey took them through Montmorency and Eltham, visiting Pecks Dam, Eltham Leisure Centre, Main Road Eltham and Alistair Knox Park. Along the way, students observed local landmarks and compared how our community has changed over time.
After plenty of walking, they caught the train from Eltham back to Montmorency before walking back to school.

Two fantastic opportunities for our Year 2 students to see history come to life and discover that there are stories from the past all around us! ✨

We love having our wonderful family volunteers involved at Monty South! 💛

So many of our programs, including our Kitchen Program, simply wouldn’t run as smoothly without the generous support of family members who give their time to help our students learn, create and get involved.

A huge thank you to all of our parents, grandparents and family members who volunteer their time across our school. We are so grateful for everything you contribute to the Monty South community!

Our Year 4 students stepped back in time as they explored the historic Polly Woodside at Melbourne’s South Wharf today. They discovered what life was like aboard a tall ship, explored the ship’s decks and learnt about its fascinating history, including its journeys around the world and its important role in Melbourne’s maritime past. Students had the opportunity to experience the ship firsthand and imagine what life was like for the crew who sailed the seas more than a century ago. It was a fantastic hands-on learning experience that brought their history learning to life! ⛵️🌊

This week, our Foundation students are learning all about capacity in Maths. After reviewing what they already knew and working through the lesson together, the Preps headed out to the sandpit to explore capacity in a hands-on way.

Students compared a range of containers, estimating which would hold more or less before testing their predictions using sand. There was lots of filling, pouring, comparing and great mathematical thinking along the way! 🤩

This week, Monty South is joining schools across Australia for Bullying No Way Week, Australia’s national week of action for bullying prevention.

The 2026 theme is ‘Small Acts, Big Impact’, reminding us that small actions such as including someone, speaking up and showing kindness can make a meaningful difference.

Throughout the week, our students will take part in classroom discussions and activities focused on developing a shared understanding of what bullying is, how it differs from one-off unkind or mean behaviour, and what we can do if we experience or witness bullying.

At MSPS, our CIRCLE values of Compassion, Inclusion and Respect help guide the way we treat one another every day. Together, we can continue to build a school community where everyone feels safe, valued and that they belong. 💙

Small acts can have a BIG impact!
