Detectives from the Merri-Bek Crime Investigation Unit last week charged a Williams Landing man for 201 offences including:
• Obtain Property by Deception;
• Obtain Financial Advantage by Deception;
• Theft;
• Handle Stolen Goods;
• Negligently Deal with Proceeds of Crime;
• Deal Property Suspected Proceeds of Crime;
• Making, Using or Supplying Identification Information;
• Unauthorised Access, Modification or Impairment with Intent to Commit Serious Offence; and
• Producing, Supplying or Obtaining Data with Intent to Commit Serious Computer Offence.

The charges arose from an investigation into a large-scale telecommunications scam across Victoria which saw dozens of elderly victims across Melbourne, Merri-Bek, Moonee Valley, Darebin, Monash, Whitehorse, Geelong and Corio unknowingly give access to their credit and debit cards to offenders.

The male is next expected to face court at Wyndham on 10 December 2026.

Investigators continue to urge members of the public to reach out to their elderly friends and family who are often more vulnerable to these forms of scams to discuss cyber security measures.

Thinking of buying an e-scooter? 🛴

Not all e-scooters are legal to ride in Victoria.

A legal e-scooter must 👇:

- Have a max speed capability of 25 km/h
- Only be ridden by aged 16+ wearing a helmet
- Be ridden at a maximum speed of 20km/h
- Have two wheels, a handlebar and a footboard
- Weigh less than 45 kg.

Moonee Valley Police Service Area is honoured to be recognised at the Victoria Police Multicultural Awards for Operation BLITZ 🏆🎊.

Police are investigating a suspicious fire in Essendon overnight.

Emergency services were called to reports of a house fire on Deakin Street just before midnight on 13 October.

The property, which was unoccupied, was destroyed.

Investigators have been told unknown offender/s were seen fleeing the scene.

A crime scene has been established and the investigation is ongoing.

Police are investigating a suspicious fire in Moonee Ponds this morning.

Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a hair and nail salon on Shuter Street about 12.50am.

It is believed unknown offenders threw jerry cans into the closed business before it was set alight.

They fled in a light-coloured vehicle north towards Puckle Street.

A crime scene has been established and the investigation is ongoing.

👮🚴 Stolen e-bike 🚴👮

Police in Moonee Valley are investigating the circumstances surrounding a theft in Moonee Ponds on 27 September 2026.🔍

It is alleged an unknown male attended the Holmes Road address at 4 pm and stole a black Lekker Amsterdam e-bike. 🚴

The male 🙍‍♂️ is described as Caucasian, mid-30s, with a blonde mohawk, wearing a white t-shirt, blue track pants, and aviator sunglasses. 🕶️

Investigators have released an image of a man who may be able to assist with enquiries.
