Great news

The Kerkhoff Carnaby Group and Shire of Moora are delighted to announce their agreement to erect the Carnaby Cockatoos Statue in a suitable location in Apex Park.

Following discussions between Topsy De Vries, Wes Porter and the Shires Chief Executive Officer, Gavin Robins, and following careful consideration of public comments - the Chief Executive Officer will present the agreement to Council for endorsement at its meeting on 26 November 2025.

This is an exciting outcome that gives certainty to the location of the structure; it enables the construction of the cockatoos to proceed and recognises the tireless work of the Kerkhoff Carnaby’s Group.

Topsy said that she is “overjoyed and relieved that the question of the cockatoo’s location has been settled and is excited about the cockatoos eventually arriving in their home in Apex Park”.

Shire President Ken Seymour and Deputy President Lyn Hamilton said they look forward to receiving the CEO’s recommendation and supporting the work of the Kerkhoff Carnaby’s Group.

Having been inspired by the newly elected president and vice presidents speeches about their commitment to transparency with the community I thought I would share 2 member motions I sent to our CEO for inclusion on the agenda for the next meeting.

This is the second member motion I have submitted today although it is pretty self explanatory I will further explain.

After council was presented with several informal petitions, a gallery full of committee members and the entire KCG have ll indicated that the sports and rec centre isn’t the communities preferred location for the statue and there has been strong support for the statue to be erected in the original in principal supported location in apex park, I have put this into a motion.

Luckily all the geo testing site investigation and engineering has been done for the original site so should this motion be passed it will allow a relatively smooth process to transition the sites

Having been inspired by the newly elected president and vice presidents speeches about their commitment to transparency with the community I thought I would share 2 member motions I sent to our CEO for inclusion on the agenda for the next meeting.

This is the first motion to form a committee to advise council on the local impact of the housing crisis and how to best assist the increasing number of residents within our shire being displaced and homeless.

The proposed committee is not for the purposes of taking over or taking on responsibilities of the department of housing with low income housing but to help every day members of our community to have the ability to privately buy or rent houses and attract wrap around services.

Stay tuned for my second motion.
