Fire Weather District Boundaries have been changed as part of updates to the Australian Fire Danger Rating System (AFDRS) to simplify and streamline the way community members are kept informed about the risk in their local area.

Morawa is located in the North Midlands Fire Weather District, and the Emergency WA app has been updated to reflect the changes.

We thank all artists for contributing their work to this year’s Morawa Biennial Art Exhibition, which opened on Friday, 21 August. We can confirm that every submitted entry is being displayed, and our team takes great care with every piece throughout setup and the exhibition period.

With more than 300 artworks showcased across multiple mediums, it isn’t possible for us to feature every individual piece on social media. Now that the exhibition has opened, we will continue sharing a selection of photos over the coming days to highlight the breadth and diversity of the event.

We warmly encourage community members and visitors to come and view the exhibition in person, as this is the best way to experience the full range of artworks on display.

A huge thank you to everyone who entered their artworks into the 10th Morawa Biennial Art Awards & Exhibition!

We were amazed by the exceptional quality and diversity of artworks submitted by talented artists from across Western Australia. Our judges certainly had a difficult task selecting the winning pieces!

A special mention goes to Veni Inbaseelan, who supported students from Morawa District High School with their entries, helping showcase the incredible creativity and talent of the young people in our community.

The Shire of Morawa was delighted to host the opening night of the 10th Biennial Art Awards & Exhibition on Friday, 21 August 2026.

The evening was a wonderful celebration of the incredible talent of Western Australian artists, with more than 300 artworks on display across a diverse range of categories.

Guests were entertained by the talented Lakeisha and Band and enjoyed delicious food by Tarts & Co, making it a memorable evening for everyone who attended.

A special thank you to our generous sponsors: Ansteel Karara Mining, Merkanooka Haulage, Mid West Development Commission, Regional Sounds, MidMech, Bendigo Bank – Community Bank Geraldton, North Midlands Project, Melissa Price MP and the Tropiano Family.

Their valued support helped make it possible for the Shire of Morawa to host one of the largest art exhibitions in regional Western Australia.
Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the opening night such a wonderful celebration of art, creativity and community.

If you were unable to attend the Opening Night, there is still plenty of time to experience the 10th Biennial Morawa Art Awards & Exhibition!
The exhibition is open to the public daily from 10.00am to 1.00pm until Sunday, 30 August 2026.

Entry is by donation, with all visitors welcome to come along and enjoy the incredible collection of artworks from talented Western Australian artists.

We are thrilled to announce that the Shire of Morawa has been successful in securing funding through the Western Australian Government’s Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage Regional Housing Support Fund.

The Shire has been awarded up to $1,498,036 to support the construction of six key worker homes within the Morawa townsite. This funding forms part of a co funded arrangement, with the Shire also contributing to the delivery of this important project.

The Regional Housing Support Fund supports the delivery of new housing in regional Western Australia, helping address the challenges associated with housing and infrastructure costs.

This significant investment represents an exciting step forward for Morawa. The development of key worker housing will strengthen our ability to attract and retain essential workers, underpin local service delivery, and contribute to the long term growth and sustainability of our community.

This is a fantastic outcome for our community, and we look forward to sharing more details as the project progresses
