In Queensland, Grandparents Day is celebrated every year on the last Sunday in October. In 2025, that is Sunday 26 October.

Grandparents Day recognises the contribution grandparents make to families, communities, and the economy.

It's a day for Queenslanders to say ‘thank you’ to their grandparents for their care and support and for sharing their knowledge, experience, and traditions with younger generations.

You can celebrate and thank the grandparents in your life, in person or virtually by:
- asking your grandparents about their experiences, memories and the joys of being a grandparent
- reading a book, playing a game or enjoying a craft project together
- cooking or sharing a favourite meal
- having a yarn together
- talking about your family history.

Got a feeling that someone you know or care about isn’t behaving as they normally would? Perhaps they seem out of sorts? More agitated or withdrawn? Or they’re just not themselves. Trust that gut instinct and act on it. Learn more about the signs and when it's time to ask R U OK? here.
By starting a conversation and commenting on the changes you’ve noticed, you could help that family member, friend or workmate open up. If they say they are not OK, you can follow our conversation steps to show them they’re supported and help them find strategies to better manage the load. If they are OK, that person will know you’re someone who cares enough to ask.

This year’s National NAIDOC Week marks a powerful milestone: 50 years of honoring and elevating Indigenous voices, culture, and resilience. The 2025 theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," celebrates not only the achievements of the past but the bright future ahead, empowered by the strength of our young leaders, the vision of our communities, and the legacy of our ancestors.
NAIDOC stands for National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee. Its origins can be traced to the emergence of Aboriginal groups in the 1920′s which sought to increase awareness in the wider community of the status and treatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians.

Each May, Queensland marks Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Prevention Month. This annual initiative aims to raise awareness of domestic and family violence and coercive control, highlight the support services available, and send a clear message that violence in our communities will not be tolerated.

The theme for 2025 is: Take positive action today to build a safer Queensland.

A safer Queensland can start with you. Whether you’re part of a member of a community sports club, a small business owner, a school board member or just a Queenslander who cares, there are simple things we can all do today to take action against domestic and family violence in our communities.
