NSW RFS - Moree Brigade Moree Brigade is attached to the Namoi/Gwydir District of the NSW Rural Fire Service The crews at Moree Rural Fire Brigade are 100% volunteer.

The New South Wales Rural Fire Service (RFS) is the world's largest volunteer fire service. The service provides a world standard of excellence in the provision of a community-based fire and emergency service. To protect the community and our environment we will minimise the impact of fire and other emergencies by providing the highest standards of training, community education, prevention and ope

rational capability. They give up their time and time with their families, to help keep you, your family and the local community safe. Moree RFS are ready to assist the community 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Moree RFS attend not only bushfires, but also Motor Vehicle Accidents (MVA's), hazard reductions, natural disasters and various other incidents/activities in the local area or where required by the community.

🔥 Bush Fire Danger Period Reminder - 1 September - Namoi Gwydir District 🔥

So, what does this mean for landowners?

From 1 September, residents in the Narrabri Shire, Gwydir Shire Council and Moree Plains Shire Council areas will need to obtain a Fire Permit from the NSW Rural Fire Service before conducting any burns. This includes activities such as hazard reduction burning, burning of piles, stubble or other vegetation.

The Bush Fire Danger Period is an important part of preparing our communities for the warmer months ahead. It helps ensure burning activities are conducted safely and under suitable conditions to reduce the risk of fires escaping and threatening lives, property and the environment.

Now is also a great time to do a few simple and free things in preparation for the upcoming BFDP:
✅ Review & discuss your bush fire survival plan with your family
✅ Prepare and maintain your property including:
Clear gutters and around homes
Check pumps, hoses and firefighting equipment

🔥 Hazard Reduction Burn Notification 🔥
Please be advised that the NSW RFS is conducting a Hazard Reduction Burn in the area South of Warialda on the 15th and 16th August.
Smoke will be visible. Motorists are reminded to drive to the conditions, particularly during periods of reduced visibility.
If smoke is affecting your health, consider limiting outdoor activities and follow advice from your healthcare provider.

Over the last 24 hours, Moree Brigade and our hard-working volunteers have responded to 8 fire calls, including 3 grass fires and 5 structure fires.

All 8 fires are currently listed as unknown causes, and are being investigated by New England Police District. Anyone with information is urged to contact police.

Today, volunteers of various brigades, including several members of Moree Brigade, completed a 10 hectare hazard reduction burn on Chinaman’s Lane in Moree.

This was a successful burn with minimal wind and no complications. The area will now be safe for 2-3 years, protecting nearby residences and assets.

Be mindful that smoke may be visible for the next 48 hours as the area smoulders and the remaining inner-burn depletes of fuel.

Our brigade will be assisting with this Hazard Reduction on Saturday along with other brigades from across the district.

Our brigade will be assisting with this Hazard Reduction on Saturday along with other brigades from across the district.

Fire agencies and land managers will take advantage of favourable conditions over the coming days to undertake planned hazard reduction burns. A hazard reduction (HR) burn is scheduled for 9/05/2026. The HR will be at the Northern end of Chinaman's Lane Moree. The smoke from this burn may settle over Moree or Ashley over the next few days.

This afternoon, your volunteers responded to a grass fire along the side of Gwydirfield Road, Moree.

Although the source of the fire is unconfirmed, it is suspected that damaged or tangled power lines are at fault, causing an area of burn approximately 300 metres long and 3 metres wide.
