Bush Fire Danger Period to start on 14 September 2026

The Bush Fire Danger Period of the Wingecarribee Shire Council and Wollondilly Shire Council areas has been brought forward to 14 September due to prevailing dry conditions. This means that a Fire Permit will be required from 14 September to light or maintain fire in the open.

Residents and land holders should also ensure they understand the rules around the use of fire. Along with required fire permits, you must also notify your local fire authority and neighbours of your intent to burn 24 hours in advance.

To apply for a Fire Permit visit www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify and be sure to give us as much notice as possible as a Fire Permit Officer will need to visit your property prior to issuing a permit.

Know the risks for your area, have a bush fire survival plan and discuss what you and your family will do if threatened by fire.

Got some tricky household items taking up space? ♻️

Our Mobile Community Recycling Centre is back this September, making it easy to safely recycle items that don't belong in your household bins, including fire extinguishers, batteries, motor oil, fluorescent globes, cardboard, gas bottles, paint, polystyrene, mobile phones, smoke detectors and soft plastics.

2 & 30 September - Colo Vale & Yerrinbool

Have your say in The Annual 📣

The Annual Community Sentiment Survey is Council’s yearly check-in with the community - giving everyone the opportunity to tell us how Council is performing, what’s working well and where we need to improve.

It asks about Council’s performance, leadership, trust, communication and services, helping us track how community sentiment changes over time.

We know the community has recently taken part in the Future Funding, Stronger Shire engagement. The Annual is different. That engagement focused on a specific decision about Council’s long-term financial sustainability. The Annual is about how Council is performing more broadly.

The Annual is also part of Council’s Delivery Program commitment to strengthen communication and engagement and track community sentiment over time.

🗣️ The Annual is open to everyone from 1–30 September.

It takes less than two minutes for most people to complete.

Please see Hazard Reduction Notification from the RFS Southern Highlands starting tomorrow in the High Range area.

Hazard Reduction Notification - High Range

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service, supported by the NSW Rural Fire Service, will be implementing the Soapy Flat Stage 2 Hazard Reduction burn from tomorrow (1 September 2026) in the High Range area, specifically to the north and east of Soapy Flat Road and west of Jellore Creek in the High Range area, per the below map.

This burn operation and associated smoke will be visible in the local area of Wombeyan Caves Road and in the High Range and Woodlands areas. Please only call Triple Zero (000) to report unattended fires.

Funding is available to eligible not-for-profit organisations to support locally led celebrations, including community BBQs, morning teas, multicultural events, family fun days and more.
