Our members attend arrange of incidents and activities such as bush/grass fires, house/structure fires, storm damage, search and rescues, MVA and community educations.

International Firefighters' Day (IFFD) is observed on May 4, to honour firefighters for their service internationally, remember firefighters who lost their lives during service and to commemorate firefighters killed in the September 11 attacks. We thank you all.

Yesterday two members from Moss Vale went into to the big smoke for the Anzac Day parade to assist with the ( HVM ) Hostile Vehicle Mitigation. The trucks are seen here in position protecting the men, women, family’s, friends of service personnel and veterans from all services

From Wednesday 1 April, fire permits will no longer be required for residents, except those properties within the town limits of Warragamba, Picton, Mittagong, Moss Vale, Bowral and Bundanoon, who are required to obtain a fire permit from Fire & Rescue NSW all year round.

Even though a fire permit is no longer required, you must still notify your neighbours and the local fire authority 24 hours before burning as well as comply with any Council Backyard Burning Policies.

Before lighting up, you should also check the forecast weather conditions and have sufficient equipment on hand to control and contain the fire to your own property. Failure to notify neighbours or the RFS, or allowing a fire to escape can result in significant fines.

To notify of your intent to burn, use the online burn notification tool at www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/notify or call your local Fire Control Centre during business hours.

Come on down to the Moss Vale markets at the show ground and see us, the Rotary club and many stalls. We have some activities packs for the kids and they can have a turn of the fire hose and knock some cones over while the parents have a chat about your house being bush fire ready! Here til 2pm.

Today we participated in the Australia Day parade at Berrima. Moss Rural Fire Brigade took their CAT 7 along with a PC (in place of our CAT 1 which still in Victoria) we were join by Berrima Rural Fire Brigade, Mittagong Rural Fire Brigade and RFS Southern Highlands Support Brigade with Bulk Water and Catering.

The crowd was amazing and great to see the community out and about for a great day!

RFS Strike Team, made up of 20 firefighters, 1 ST leader and 1 support personnel (total 23 personnel) plus a response team coordinator will be departing Victoria and returning to home
districts on Sunday, 18 January 2026.

This strike team has been deployed to Victoria on a 1-3-1 (day) rotation operating under the Seymour
ICC, with accommodation in Puckapunyal Army Base within base camp accommodation.

Welcome home to all RFS members, More local members will be deployed in the coming week to continue helping.

Three of our Moss Vale Firefighters along with a Bundanoon firefighter have left this morning with many others to support firefighting operations in Victoria, as fires continue.

They’re working as part of Strike Team and will be operating in extremely challenging conditions. We are wishing safe travels to all crews, and we’re looking forward to everyone returning home safe.

Extreme FDR & Total Fire Ban Declared for Saturday 10 January

Hot, dry and windy conditions are forecast for tomorrow which will see the Fire Danger Rating rise to Extreme. As a result, a Total Fire Ban has also been declared from midnight tonight for 24 hours for the Wingecarribee Shire Council and Wollondilly Shire Council areas.

During a Total Fire Ban you cannot light, maintain or use a fire in the open, or to carry out any activity in the open that causes, or is likely to cause, a fire.

Know what you will do if threatened by fire, review your Bush Fire Survival Plan and be ready to take immediate action. Report all fires without a fire truck in attendance to Triple Zero (000) immediately.
