🚒💦 EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED!

One of the things about being an on-call firefighter is that you never quite know what the next call will bring!

On a sunny Saturday afternoon, our Moss Vale crew received a call to attend a flooding incident. ☀️🌊

Arriving on Spring Street, firefighters were greeted by an unexpected water feature, with water spurting up through the middle of the roadway.

The culprit was a burst water pipe beneath the road, which had washed away a significant amount of the road base. With the bitumen beginning to break up and sections of the roadway becoming unstable, crews established traffic control and requested Council attend to isolate the water supply.

The site has now been handed over to Council, who are organising machinery and a repair crew to make the area safe and carry out repairs.

⚠️ If you’re travelling through the area, we recommend using an alternate route until Council has completed the repairs.

Just another Saturday afternoon for your local on-call firefighters. 🚒

🚒 You never know where the pager will take you.

One of the unique things about being an On-Call Firefighter with Fire and Rescue NSW is that no two days are ever the same. You never know what the next call will be, or where you’ll be needed.

In the early hours of Friday morning, a serious two-truck crash involving fire occurred at Breadalbane. Fire and Rescue NSW crews from Goulburn, Yass, Crookwell and Mittagong responded to the incident with Duty Commander.

As resources were committed, a station “move-up” was initiated to ensure surrounding communities remained protected. Just after 5:00am, our Moss Vale crew responded to provide standby coverage at Crookwell Fire Station.

While covering the area, the crew was dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover near Peelwood, where the vehicle was leaking fuel and oil.

Working alongside NSW Police, NSW Ambulance and the Rural Fire Service, our crew made the scene safe by containing and cleaning up the fuel spill, while NSW Ambulance paramedics treated and transported the driver. The Rural Fire Service also assisted with the clean-up and traffic management.

It was great to work alongside members from the Peelwood Rural Fire Brigade, highlighting the strong partnerships between emergency services in keeping our communities safe.

Once the scene was made safe, responsibility was handed back to NSW Police and the Rural Fire Service, allowing our crew to return to Crookwell to complete their standby before heading home.

Wherever the call comes from, we’re proud to answer it. 🚒

🚨 Incidence Response - Motor Vehicle Accident, Hume Motorway 🚨

It was an early start to Sunday morning for emergency services across the Southern Highlands, with pagers sounding for our on call firefighters and volunteer emergency service partners at around 4:20am.

Crews responded to reports of a single vehicle motor vehicle accident with a person trapped.

Our Fire and Rescue NSW Moss Vale crew arrived shortly after NSW Police and immediately established fire protection for the scene. Firefighters quickly forced entry to vehicle door to provide access to the patient before assisting our NSW SES volunteers with the specialist rescue operation, providing additional tools and manpower during the extrication.

The patient, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was cared for by NSW Ambulance paramedics, with support from the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter medical team.

Once the scene had been made safe and all hazards addressed, it was handed over to the NSW Rural Fire Service and NSW Police.

The morning wasn’t over just yet. While returning to station along Golden Vale Road, our crew came across a tree blocking the roadway. Firefighters provided scene lighting and assisted the Wingecarribee Shire Council worker clearing the obstruction, helping to safely reopen the road.

👏 A great example of the strength of a true multi agency responses. Fire and Rescue NSW, NSW Police, NSW SES, NSW Ambulance, NSW Rural Fire Service, Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter, and Wingecarribee Shire Council all working together with one common goal, protecting and keeping our community safe.

Thank you to everyone involved for your professionalism, teamwork and dedication, no matter the time of day.
