Alpine FM shares information provided by official sources of emergency information. Tune in on 96.5FM in the Kiewa Valley and 92.9FM in the Ovens Valley.

Dargo - and surrounding forests, parks and roads - will stay closed to visitors this Australia Day long weekend.

We know this is usually a very popular time for tourists, but bushfires in the area are still active and could get worse in the hotter weather this weekend.

Hotter conditions can cause flare ups and additional fire activity - adding to the risk already existing from the Wonnangatta-Dargo 52,000 hectare fire complex. Conditions can change very quickly.

Do not illegally go camping or four-wheel driving in closed areas. Both for your own safety and that of our many firefighters and machinery operators who are in these areas carrying out important works.

There are so many other amazing areas across East Gippsland and the High Country that you can head out to explore instead - until conditions are safer and Dargo can welcome you back.

Current closures include:
• Parts of the Alpine National Park
• Mitchell River National Park
• State Forests around Dargo
• Blue Pool – and all sites north from there along Freestone Creek Road
