Citizen Science Snow Gum Survey - Mt Buller

Join Friends of the Earth on Saturday, 29 August, for a Snow Gum Citizen Science Survey at Mt Buller and help contribute to important research into the health of our alpine environment. Snow gums are a defining feature of the Australian High Country, playing a vital role in biodiversity, water catchments, and the unique character of the Alps.

Participants will assist with gathering valuable data to better understand the condition of local snow gum forests and support ongoing conservation efforts. The survey will meet at Alpine Central (Post Office) at 10:00 am and is open to community members, visitors, and mountain enthusiasts.

Please be advised that the Mt Buller Road is now re-opened for two-way traffic. Due to current conditions, chains are being fitted to 2WD vehicles at the Plough Shed location. Please drive with care and obey the directions of attendants and emergency services.

Mt Buller Road Closure update

We confirm a serious road incident occurred on the Mt Buller Road earlier this morning (Aug 10th). Emergency services are at the scene, and the matter is currently being managed by the relevant authorities. We are working closely with emergency services and will continue to support their response as required.

The Mt Buller Road is closed until further notice for all traffic and this may be for an extended period of time. The Sports Hall on Level 2 at Alpine Central is open now to the public for shelter, water and toilet facilities. Village Plaza also remains open as usual for public use. Overnight guests are encouraged to contact their accommodation provider in the first instance.
