Gidgee Healing Gidgee Healing is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service based in the North West and Lower Gulf regions of Queensland.

Gidgee Healing provides a range of comprehensive primary healthcare services, including GP, nursing, allied health, mental health, family health care, healthy lifestyle promotion and education. Gidgee Healing's vision is to make a significant and growing contribution towards achieving equity in health outcomes for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples of Mount Isa and the other communities in our geographic service area.

This month, the Gidgee Healing specialists will be visiting Normanton to deliver the following Allied Health services:
• Occupational therapy – help your ability to do everyday activities
• Optometry – help with vision
• Physiotherapy - helping restore movement and function
• Dietitian - (healthy eating)

⚠️ COMMUNITY UPDATE – DOOMADGEE ⚠️

Unfortunately, Gidgee Healing’s Doomadgee Clinic will be closed today Monday 24 August following an incident involving the vehicle of our visiting GP and CEO.

Our GP, who had travelled to Doomadgee to provide medical coverage to the community for the next two weeks, has had their vehicle significantly damaged. The photos show the extent of the damage.

As a result of this incident, the GP will now be leaving the community and will no longer be able to provide the planned GP coverage for the next 2 weeks.

The safety and wellbeing of our staff is our priority, and Gidgee Healing is also making arrangements to ensure our nursing staff are able to leave the community safely.

We understand the significant impact that the clinic closure and loss of GP coverage will have on our patients and the wider Doomadgee community. Our team was already operating under significant pressure following similar recent damage to Gidgee Healing vehicles used for patient transport. This latest incident has further impacted our available vehicles and resources and has now made it impossible for us to safely maintain our usual clinic operations.

Our team is working to determine what alternative arrangements can be put in place, and we will provide further updates to the community as soon as possible.

We ask for the community’s patience and understanding during this time.

Today we proudly celebrate National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker and Health Practitioner Day.

At Gidgee Healing, we are incredibly proud of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners who provide compassionate, culturally safe care and make a positive difference in the lives of our patients and communities every day.

Their knowledge, dedication and commitment are at the heart of the care we provide, and we are grateful for the important role they play in improving the health and wellbeing of our communities.

Today, we're excited to share a series of staff profiles celebrating some of our amazing team members and the passion they bring to their roles. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to all of our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers and Health Practitioners across Gidgee Healing for everything you do.

🤠 Rodeo Week is officially underway in Mount Isa!

This week, Gidgee Healing CEO Dr Manjit Sekhon had the pleasure of attending the Mount Isa Rodeo Hall of Fame Dinner, an evening dedicated to celebrating the incredible people whose passion and dedication have helped shape the Mount Isa Rodeo into the iconic event it is today.

A special congratulations to Terry Lees, who was awarded a Mount Isa Rodeo Hall of Fame Medal in recognition of his decades of volunteer service and outstanding contribution to the Rodeo. What a well deserved honour!

Last night, Gidgee Healing CEO also joined the Mount Isa City Council and the local community at the Street Festival, helping kick off the exciting rodeo celebrations across town.

At Gidgee Healing, we are committed to continually learning and growing so we can provide the best possible care for our communities.

Last week, our CEO Dr Manjit Sekhon and members of our Family Wellbeing Team (Kieran, Sheree & Hannah) attended Dr Tracy Westerman's three day workshop on Indigenous mental health, complex racial trauma and attachment.

The workshop provided valuable knowledge and practical strategies to strengthen culturally safe, trauma informed care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

By investing in professional development opportunities like this, we continue to build our skills and understanding to better support the social and emotional wellbeing of our community.

A big thank you to Dr Tracy Westerman for delivering such an insightful and inspiring workshop. We look forward to putting this knowledge into practice as we continue walking alongside our community.
