Mount Isa is a vibrant and progressive city that has become the administrative, commercial, and industrial centre of North West Queensland. It covers an area of over 43,310 square kilometers (including the township of Camooweal), making it the second largest city in Australia to Kalgoolie-Boulder. The Mount Isa City Council operates tourism and entertainment facilities, supports local industry and commerce, and provides for the needs of all residents and visitors alike. The region produces some of the county's best beef, and is known internationally as one of the worlds top 10 producers of copper, lead, silver, and zinc. Mount Isa is also home to the Mount Isa Rotary Rodeo (the largest rodeo in the Southern hemisphere), the award winning Buchanan Park Events Complex, the $4.25M Family Fun Park (including water park), and the annual Xstrata Mining Expo.

An update on the John Campbell Miles Lookout 🏞️

We know many in our community are keen to see the John Campbell Miles Memorial Lookout completed.

Council has now taken control of the project site and remaining works, with the immediate focus on securing the site, assessing the works and determining the best pathway forward to complete the project.

We remain committed to seeing this important community asset delivered and will keep the community updated as the next steps become clearer.

A reminder that Water Consumption Notices issued on 31 August 2026 for the billing period ending 30 June 2026 are due for payment by 4:30pm today, 1 October 2026 ⏰

Water consumption notices have been posted to the last known postal address registered with Council. It is the property owner's responsibility to notify Council in writing of any change of address 📬

Electronic water consumption notices have been emailed to the address registered by the ratepayer on Council's eNotice portal. Please ensure your eNotice account details are up to date 📧

Pay your water consumption notice quickly and easily using one of Council's available payment options

For the safety of the community and emergency personnel, please stay clear of the area and avoid unnecessary travel nearby while crews continue their response.

Council’s Waste Management Facility is closed until further notice due to a fire in the Sunset area of Mount Isa this afternoon 🔥

Please avoid the Waste Management Facility and surrounding area to allow emergency services to work safely ⚠️

Local fire crews, Queensland Police and a water bombing helicopter are responding to the incident 🚒

Today, Mount Isa walked together to remember. 🕯️

The Miners’ Memorial Walk brought our community together to honour those we’ve lost, stand with their families and reflect on the people who helped shape Mount Isa’s mining story.

It was also a meaningful reminder of the future Miners’ Memorial at Frank Aston Hill a $4.7 million project that will create a lasting place for remembrance, reflection and for future generations to learn the stories of those we have lost.

Their legacy lives on in Mount Isa. ❤️
