ANOTHER IMPORTANT MILESTONE FOR THE MOUNT MACEDON MEMORIAL CROSS!

We are excited to share that the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Reserve Committee of Management has received approval from the Victorian Government for a $30,000 Deed of Variation under the Restoring Community War Memorials and Avenues of Honour Grant Program.

This funding will allow us to continue restoring one of Victoria's most iconic memorials by delivering:
✅ Wayfinding signage
✅ Interpretive signage sharing the rich military, commemorative and heritage stories of the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross.

This achievement builds on the incredible community effort that saw the Memorial Cross reopen in time for ANZAC Day 2026. Together, through grants, fundraising and the generosity of our supporters, we reached an important milestone—but our work is far from finished.

The Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Public Fund is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR), meaning eligible donations are tax deductible and official tax receipts are issued. 🐍 No, it's not a snake... it's our earth rod! ⚡😉

Another small but important piece of the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross restoration has just been repaired.

"What's an earth rod?" we hear you ask...

Think of it as the Cross's insurance policy during a thunderstorm. Its job is to safely carry lightning strikes into the ground, protecting the structure from damage and helping to preserve this much-loved landmark for future generations.

It's not the most glamorous part of the restoration (it certainly won't make the postcards!), but it's one of those behind-the-scenes features that quietly does a very important job.

Our Committee continues to work through the countless details—big and small—that keep the Memorial Cross safe, structurally sound and standing proudly over our community.

Sometimes restoration is about spectacular transformations... and sometimes it's about a humble strip of metal that hopes it never has to do its job. ⚡

Every repair is another step in preserving this special place for generations to come.

✨ A Fresh Chapter for a Historic Landmark ✨

After proudly standing for more than 35 years, the shingles on our iconic Lynch Gate have now been carefully replaced, ensuring this cherished entrance continues to welcome visitors for generations to come.

As part of the project, the lighting has also been reinstated, once again illuminating the historic plaques that tell the stories of those who came before us. These plaques serve as an important reminder of our shared heritage and the sacrifices that shaped our community.

Next time you pass through the Lynch Gate, take a moment to stop, read the plaques, and reflect on the history they preserve.

✨ A little bit of light news… the lights are ON! ✨

After plenty of hard work behind the scenes, it was a beautiful moment to see the Cross illuminated once again tonight. 💡❤️

For so many in our community, the lights of the Cross are more than just a landmark — they are a symbol of hope, remembrance, reflection and connection.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support, encourage and stand behind this special place. Small moments like this remind us why it matters so much to keep the light shining for future generations.

It’s official… it’s open again!

The Mount Macedon Memorial Cross stands proud once more.

Since its closure on May 21st, 2025 for essential public safety works, this place has been missed by so many. But through rain, hail, and snow—and the unwavering dedication of our incredible Committee of Management—we never gave up.

With $200,000 raised through the generosity and spirit of our community, the works are now complete. This has truly been a labour of love, resilience, and remembrance.

And tomorrow, as the sun rises, we gather again where we belong.

Progress Update – Mount Macedon Memorial Cross

This weekend saw the installation of the new balustrade, delivered in collaboration with Smart Civil.

A significant milestone for the project, this work is part of the broader safety upgrades and restoration efforts currently underway at the site. It’s fantastic to see the space taking shape again, with each step bringing us closer to reopening.

We are pleased to confirm that works remain on track for reopening in time for this year’s ANZAC Day Dawn Service—an important moment for our community to once again gather, reflect, and honour.
