SAKG 🥖🎃🧅
Our Year 4s harvested 2 large pumpkins from the garden to bring to the kitchen for cooking. The pumpkins weighed 4 kg and 6kg.
They enjoyed making pumpkin and chickpea sausage rolls and pumpkin and chickpea pumpkin curry. Both meals were delicious with many thumbs up wanting to take home the recipe.
This week the students extended their kitchen skills by mashing, roasting, dehydrating, knife and oven safety. They are also acquiring team work helping each other with Apron tying – using our Apron train method.
Our Year 3 students cooked Thai pumpkin soup and Pumpkin and honey bread. We used coriander and pumpkin from our garden.
They enjoyed learning new skills: weighing, whisking, mashing, baking, deseeding, peeling, dehydrating and in particular knife safety and commenced using knives, cutting potatoes and pumpkin. Ask them to show you the “bridge hold” and explain all the different components of a knife. They will continue to practice these skills to gain their knife licence at the end of the year.
Thank you to our helpers this week, we enjoy seeing new faces and welcoming familiar ones.
