Goolma Road Fire

Yesterday evening and Today Piambong has had crews attending a bushfire on Goolma Road along with members from NSW RFS - Gulgong Brigade, NSW RFS - Goolma Brigade, NSW RFS - Mudgee Headquarters Brigade and NSW RFS - Cumbo Brigade

Starting yesterday afternoon, the fire took told and burnt an area of bush and grass. Through the fast action of crews and landowners the fire was contained last night allowing crews to consolidate containment today.

The fire is now listed as under control, and RFS crews will continue to monitor prior to poor weather conditions continuing tomorrow.

Yesterday evening at 6:30pm Piambong was activated to a fire burning on Lower Piambong Road. Upon arrival crews found a large tree that had been struck by lightning well alight, with the embers and heat igniting a further 3 trees in the area.

To ensure extinguishment before further hot and dry temperatures return, an excavator was called in to push over the tree to allow crews to cool thoroughly.

NSW RFS - Gulgong Brigade and NSW RFS - Mudgee Headquarters Brigade were called to assist with their Category 6 tankers, each carrying 9,000 litres of water, allowing crews to cool the tree effectively.

A massive thanks once again to local landowners who prevented the fire spreading to surrounding grass prior to the arrival of crews.

With the NSW RFS - Cudgegong District experiencing plenty of storm activity over the recent days, it’s imperative that landholders check their properties for any lightning affected trees after storms have passed.

If you spot an unattended fire, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.

Thanks all for your response!

Grass Fire - Lower Piambong Road

At approximately 2:30 this afternoon, Piambong brigade was alerted to a grassfire burning on Lower Piambong Road and Gibsons Lane.

A quick response from Piambong, NSW RFS - Grattai Brigade and landowners with private fire units allowed crews to gain the upper hand quickly and prevent any further spread or damage.

Thankfully this incident was contained quickly and to a relatively small area, however these types of jobs are a timely reminder to everyone to have a plan in place as to what you will do if a fire threatens, and to check and maintain any firefighting equipment you may plan to use if the need arises.

Many thanks to all crews and private units for their assistance today!
