NSW RFS - Mulgoa Brigade

NSW RFS - Mulgoa Brigade Volunteer NSW Rural Fire Brigade established in 1940. We are a dedicated volunteer brigade protecting our local community.
(1)

Working closely with other agencies we respond to a range of emergencies including structure fires, motor vehicle accidents and storms that occur within rural fire districts. The NSW RFS is widely acknowledged as the largest volunteer fire service in the world. Members of the NSW RFS are trained to very high levels of competence to ensure they know what to do in an emergency. The Service aims to r

educe the likelihood and consequence of fires occurring. This involves comprehensive risk management programs to reduce bush fire hazards, reduce fire ignitions and the development of regulations for bush fire prone areas. Smoke alarms, unlike wine, do not age well over time.

Did you know that most smoke alarms have a use-by date? Some modern smoke alarms have a life-span of up to ten years and may not have a battery to change, making it easy to forget how long since they’ve been installed.

Remember to regularly clean and test your alarms, and check the use-by date to help keep track of their age.

Happy Mother’s Day to all our amazing mum’s at Mulgoa RFB!
We hope that you, and all the other mums out there have a fabulous day.
Thank you for everything that you do.

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate the strength, dedication and compassion of mums everywhere, but especially those in our family.

Across the state, thousands of mothers, grandmothers, mothers-in-law, stepmothers and aunties give their time to help protect their communities. Whether they're on the frontline or supporting behind the scenes their contributions are extraordinary.

Today, we thank them for all they do, not just as RFS members, but as leaders and role models in our brigades and communities.

As daylight saving ends and we gain an extra hour, it’s a great opportunity to take a moment for home fire safety. It is important to check your smoke alarms to ensure they’re working properly.

It’s crucial your home has working smoke alarms, as they provide an early warning and give you and your family valuable time to escape during a house fire.

With the cooler months approaching, please stay safe this winter. There are several simple steps you can take, such as creating a home escape plan, ensuring your smoke alarm is working and keeping all items at least a meter from the heater.

Residents across the Cumberland/Macarthur District, including Campbelltown, Liverpool, Camden, Blacktown, Penrith and Fairfield, will have noticed smoke haze and the smell of smoke today.

The smoke is drifting into the Sydney basin due to southerly winds carrying smoke from bushfires currently burning in Victoria.

This photo was taken near Kentlyn where visibility was reported to be as low as 150m in low-lying areas of Campbelltown.

Only call 000 if you see an unattended fire, flames, or an immediate threat to life or property.

Smoke safety tips:
- Keep windows and doors closed
- Avoid outdoor activities if smoke is causing irritation
- Use air conditioning on recirculate
- Those with asthma or other respiratory conditions should follow their health management plans
- If symptoms such as severe shortness of breath occur, seek medical advice
