Our crew has now left the scene however it is still single lane whilst salvage crews clean up the site and remove the trailers

Single lane now open southbound at reduced speed.

Myocum Road is now open.
Please drive to the current very wet conditions.

Myocum Road is currently closed in both directions near James Lane due to a motor vehicle accident

Cane Crushing Season Underway
The cane crushing season has now commenced, which means you may see cane fires occurring between Tweed Heads and Grafton until the end of the season, typically around mid-December.
These pre-harvest cane burns are carried out by experienced cane farmers and industry crews. While they can appear dramatic and, at times, look out of control, they are carefully planned, closely monitored, and well managed by personnel on site.
The fires are generally short-lived and extinguish quickly once the burn is complete. The burnt cane is then harvested shortly afterwards and transported for processing.
If you see a pre-harvest cane fire, please be assured that it is being managed safely and is well attended, even if it may be difficult to see the crews, particularly after dark.

It’s that time of year again, when cane burning begins around the areas between Grafton and the Queensland border, and will continue over the coming months, through to the start of summer.

Often conducted at night, these burns may look dangerous, but are carried out by experienced farmers and crews prior to harvesting.

As these burns are often visible from the Pacific Motorway, we typically see an increase in calls from concerned motorists to Triple Zero (000). In some areas, variable message signs on motorways will warn motorists that cane burning is taking place.

A busy few hours for the brigade last night.
At approx 10:45pm we were paged to a house fire to assist FR in Byron Bay.
After being released just after 12.30 this morning and on our way to get fuel in Bruns, we were diverted back to Mullum to a car accident in Argyle Street.
Needless to say we’re hoping for a Q night.
