Following on from Part 1 of our koala series, here's how to spot a koala that isn't doing so well 🐨💚
Some signs are obvious, like a koala sitting or sleeping on the ground and not moving away as you approach. Others are more subtle, like crusting around the eyes, patchy or missing fur, or laboured breathing, and these are worth a closer look from a trained rescuer to be sure.
Did you know? The sooner a sick or injured koala receives care, the better their chances of survival. Every minute counts.
Found a sick koala on the ground? Here's what to do:
🧺 Grab a laundry basket
🐨 Approach quietly and gently place the upturned basket over the koala
⚖️ Place something heavy on top to prevent escape
📱 Call Wildcare or your local koala rescue group immediately
Save this to your phone, you never know when you might need it.
