🧠 Dementia Action Week 2026
Monday 21 – Sunday 27 September
Dementia Action Week begins with World Alzheimer’s Day on Monday 21 September. Murray Bridge Council is proud to support Dementia Australia and the Murray Bridge Community Centre to raise awareness and understanding in our community.
What is dementia?
Dementia describes a collection of symptoms caused by disorders affecting the brain. It impacts memory, thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday tasks.
Did you know?
An estimated 446,500 Australians are currently living with dementia
Dementia is now the leading cause of death in Australia (AIHW)
In Murray Bridge, around 500 people were living with dementia in 2025, and this number is expected to double by 2054
💬 2026 Theme: It’s time to talk about dementia
Change starts with conversation.
This September, we’re encouraging everyone to start talking — with family and friends, in workplaces, and across the community.
By talking about dementia, we:
Build understanding
Reduce stigma
Create stronger support networks for those affected
From local businesses to GPs, from community groups to leaders, everyone has a role to play.
