We couldn’t be more proud of her and the continuous amazing work she does for the community and the members across Moreton Bay City!

Well done Diane, your efforts are appreciated by all ☺️🧡

Celebrating our Local Legends this Queensland Women’s Week - Diane Baker from Moreton Bay State Emergency Service ! 🧡

After witnessing travellers trapped in their vehicles with no access to food or water for days, Diane joined forces with local Kilcoy community members to provide support. This fostered a deep sense of satisfaction and purpose - to help others - so Diane joined the SES.

Diane is not only the Group Leader at Caboolture SES Group but a grandmother, school crossing supervisor, avid gym goer and races sled dogs during winter.

She's passionate about mentoring others and proving women can thrive in the emergency services. She is inspired by Caboolture Group's training officer Carollyn Hennessy who has a plethora of SES skills and knowledge that she willingly shares to build the capacity of others.

Responding to TC Jasper in Cairns was a true highlight for Diane. She was able to put her training into practice and support the community when they needed it most!

2025 has been one of the busiest years in our 50 year history. With responses to two major events including the first cyclone in South East Queensland in over 50 years.

For Moreton Bay SES Unit and your SES volunteers the work never stops supporting Queenslanders when they need it most. Your volunteers are currently on deployment in North Queensland providing flood boat operation and other support to communities being directly impacted by the monsoon rain event. More members are also mobilising now to fly up and continue responding to whatever needs to be done to protect Queenslanders alongside our colleagues from all over Queensland.

2025 was a massive year for us consisting of 3414 requests for assistance in City of Moreton Bay recieved and actioned. 1919 being from Tropical Cyclone Alfred and 1024 from the November 25 Severe Weather Event. We also assisted our friends at myPolice Moreton with 24 missing person searches and 9 forensic searches. Members also deployed all over Queensland to support communities during the summer of disasters. 15898 operational hours and 21021 training hours were volunteered to make all this possible.

In 2025 we also saw major imporvements to our fleet, facilities, and equipment ensuring your SES volunteers have what they need. The highlights of this being the redevelopment of Deception Bay SES Depot for Deception Bay SES Group. Providing them a nation leading facility 6 times larger then their old one. We also recieved 10 brand new operational response vehicles and 3 new response trailers to ensure members can get to the tasks safely, effectively, and with the right gear. A massive thank you to our managing partners at City of Moreton Bay and Queensland Government for so generously and collabratively working together to ensure your SES volunteers have what they need to keep up with surging demand for SES service delivery.

2026 is shaping up to be a big year for Moreton Bay SES Unit with some of its members ringing in the new year out in the rain on operations.

Our new years resolution is going to be,
- Keep helping Queenslanders to stay safe and when they need us most
- Keep practicing and developing our skills to ensure we are always ready for what Queensland's weather has to throw at us
- Welcome and train new people to Moreton Bay SES Unit so we have new colleagues to work alongside
- Work with our fellow community members to teach them about being disaster prepared citizens
- Be the best SES members we can be

Your new years resolution should contain,
- Prepare your home for severe weather
- Prepare an Emergency Plan
- Prepare an Emergency Kit
- Talk to your family members about what to do during severe weather
- Get to know your neighbours and help them prepare their homes to

Ever considering joining SES so you to can come and have in the fun sun too? Actually more often then not it's fun in the rain, not the sun, but it's still fun.

Moreton Bay SES Unit is looking for more volunteers in 2026 and have information sessions starting in two weeks. You can register your interest in joining SES here, https://www.ses.qld.gov.au/join-us

And that's a wrap!

After 6 days of non-stop operations, over 2800 volunteer hours, and 146 of your local SES volunteers out and about, we have just completed the last of 1024 requests for assistance received within City of Moreton Bay after the severe weather event on Monday 24th November.

Our local SES volunteers have battled a heatwave, more rain and storms, very large trees, and some houses with no roofs, to help everyone in need across our city.

We'd like to say a massive thank you to the kids at a house in Ferny Hills who made personalised thank you cards for our SES volunteers that tarped their roof after it recieved hail damage from the storm. These will be proudly displayed at Arana Hills SES Group as a reminder of why we do what we do and the importance of it.

We'd also like to give a massive shoutout to our friends Rural Fire Service in Queensland Fire Department for their support on the chainsaws to clear trees and restore access in the Bribie Island, Beachmere, Wamuran, and Burpengar areas. Team work really does make the dream work.

The severe weather season has only just begun. Now is not the time to be complacent as there will be more severe weather over the summer. Now is the time to ensure you prepare your home, make an emergency plan, and pack your emergency kit. Information on what you can do to prepare can be found on the SES website: https://www.ses.qld.gov.au/prepare-for-severe-weather
