We couldn’t be more proud of Brigade member, Jane Morrison, making her debut this weekend for the ACT Brumbies in the Women’s Super Rugby.

Jane is a fourth generation Springfield fire fighter and from a very strong bloodline of exceptional rugby players. She’s been training hard and is ready to make an impact.

Go get ‘em Jane!!!

The first trial match for our Brumbies Women’s side this Sunday at Brumbies HQ 🔥

Come down and support, kick off at 1pm.

Ever wondered what we get up to at training? Last night our crews focused on something we get called out too quite frequently - car fires.

Are you interested in getting involved with your local brigade? Get in touch and we can talk about what we do and how you can become a part of it.

Springfield Brigade member Rhian Williams is the author of Emergency! Emergency! Vehicles to the Rescue, a children’s picture book inspired by her time with our brigade. The book has been included in The Guardian’s Best Australian Children’s Picture Book poll and voting is now open.

You can vote every day until 5 February. It would be wonderful to see our community support a story that grew out of real experiences right here at Springfield.

You may have seen this footage from the grass fire on Johnson Road last night. What it shows is how quickly fire spreads in certain conditions. This fire had a strong easterly wind, plenty of grass and scrub to burn up hill.

We were fortunate to have access to so many appliances from surrounding brigades and the ACT at this time to contain the fire as quickly as we did.

Advice: Rugby Rd Fire, Bevendale (Upper Lachlan LGA) – Prepare Now
Firefighters are working to control a grass fire burning in the Bevendale area, approximately 40km north east of Yass. The fire is burning between Rugby and Kiowarrah Roads and is burning in a south easterly direction towards Bevendale Road. Those in the vicinity should prepare now. Check and follow your Bush Fire Survival Plan and stay up to date. Leaving early is your safest option.

What will you do today to prepare for bush fire? Have a chat with the family about when you will leave. Get your emergency kit together so that if you do need to go, you are ready. Stay indoors but keep check with news and make sure you have access to the emergency apps.

Know when you’ll go.

Some real images from the CFA district page.
Today, we want you to see the realities of what leaving late looks like.
These drivers became disoriented in the blinding smoke and crashed head-on.
They survived. Having your fire plan, and having made the decision to leave early or not at all is what you need to decide.
