Australia’s architects of barefoot hillbilly pop, The Pigs, are famous
for their rip roaring live performances... and in 2019 their studio
work roared up the charts with Hillbilly Synthesiser reaching No. 1
on the Australian Independent Albums Chart.
The Pigs are a family band, last name ‘Pig’. Music and comedy run in their
blood and they have been antagonizing and entertaining each other since
their early days in the womb. The band began performing live in 2004, doing
small gigs in Sydney’s Inner-West. Somehow they ended up at Tamworth
Country Music Festival where they became instant crowd favourites. Their
popularity has been something of a phenomenon ever since, with no one
being more bewildered or surprised than The Pigs themselves. In fifteen years on the road, the Pigs have wowed audiences at festivals all
over Australia & Europe. Also popping up on the tele on Australia’s Got
Talent, Studio Ten, Spicks’n’Specks, Rage and CMC.
Throughout this time they’ve released five albums and come to be known as
the band that has made songs by Beyonce, Powderfinger, Farn-sy, INXS,
Skyhooks, and even Kanye bluegrassy – just as they were meant to be –
with originals mixed with covers on their albums. The Pigs’ most popular
song on Spotify is the hilariously quirky original, “Macho Moisturiser” – a
song that’s become an unlikely sing-a-long classic at a Pigs concert.
