🚨 HAZARD REDUCTION BURN | BONOGIN

Council contractors, LRM Fire & Rescue, are planning to conduct a hazard reduction burn at Bally Mountain Conservation Area, Bonogin Road, Bonogin, tomorrow, Thursday 3rd September, weather and conditions permitting.

πŸ”₯ Smoke and the glow from the fire may be visible across the local area during the burn and for some time afterwards.

If you are affected by smoke:
🏠 Close windows and doors
πŸ’Š Those with respiratory conditions should keep required medications nearby
πŸš— Take care on local roads and drive to conditions, particularly if visibility is reduced

Hazard reduction burns help reduce vegetation fuel loads and form an important part of preparing our local area for bushfire season.

When the wind changes, so does the plan.

During a recent prescribed burn in Central Queensland, changing wind conditions caused smoke to drift across the track. To manage the changing fire behaviour, the crew adapted their ignition strategy, lighting internally to encourage the fire at the edge to draw back into the burn block and reduce smoke impacts.

Pictured here is our CEO, Renee McIver & Director, Lindsay McIver (behind the camera) working alongside the crew to implement the revised plan.

Prescribed burning is dynamic. Every burn requires crews to continually monitor weather, fuel conditions and fire behaviour, making informed decisions to achieve safe and effective outcomes.

It's this combination of planning, experience and adaptability that underpins every operation.
