Reflecting on two years of learning, partnership and progress.

The formal period of Alpine Health’s 2024–2026 Reconciliation Action Plan has now concluded, but our commitment to reconciliation continues.

Over the past two years, we have worked alongside First Nations community members and partners to strengthen relationships, build cultural safety, recognise NAIDOC Week and National Reconciliation Week, and support staff learning through cultural safety training and workshops.

We sincerely thank everyone who shared their knowledge, guidance and leadership throughout this journey.

Reconciliation is ongoing, and we look forward to building on this work through Alpine Health’s next Reconciliation Action Plan.

You may notice some works underway at Mt Beauty Hospital over the next week, with fencing around Kiewa Valley House and the rear of the hospital being replaced.

The new fencing will improve safety for our residents and bring the area up to current standards.

These important works have been made possible through a generous donation from the Mt Beauty Hospital Op Shop. We’re incredibly grateful for their continued support of local healthcare and aged care.

At 16 years young, George the cat has relocated from Barwidgee Lodge to Hawthorn Village for an extended holiday and some well-earned rest and relaxation.

George has quickly settled into his new surroundings, where residents and staff adore him. With plenty of attention, affection and comfortable places to nap, he has already become something of a celebrity!

We hope George enjoys this peaceful new chapter in his senior years.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Dr. Andrea J Garrett, recipient of the Cancer Australia 2026 Jeannie Ferris Award for Health Professionals and Researchers.

A certified gynaecological oncologist and senior clinical leader, she has worked to improve equity, access and quality of care for women with gynaecological cancers. Her work spans statewide service leadership, guideline development, research and specialist care for rural and remote communities and other priority populations.

The Hon Mark Butler MP, Minister for Health and Ageing, presented the 2026 Jeannie Ferris Awards to Dr Garrett and Kirralee Hughes at Australian Parliament House, as part of a celebration marking 20 years of national leadership in cancer control.

Alpine Health has welcomed two experienced health and aged care leaders to its Board of Directors.

Lauren Vera and Tony Dunn join the Board, while Corinne Rice has been reappointed. Together, they bring valuable experience and leadership to help shape the future of healthcare and aged care across our Alpine and Indigo communities.

We also sincerely thank outgoing Directors David Leggo and Sonja Greenfield for their years of dedicated service and commitment to Alpine Health and our communities.

We look forward to working together to continue delivering safe, high-quality care close to home.

On the first anniversary of the tragic events at Porepunkah, Alpine Health remembers Detective Leading Senior Constable Neal Thompson and Senior Constable Vadim de Waart-Hottart, who lost their lives in the line of duty.

We extend our thoughts to their families, colleagues, the officer who was injured, and everyone across our local communities who continues to be affected.

Today, we pause to remember and acknowledge the courage, care and strength shown throughout our community.
