Sunshine Coast Pride Network

Sunshine Coast Pride Network Sunshine Coast Pride is about the celebration, recognition & visibility of the Sunshine Coast's LGBTQIA+ community. Show your Pride in Paradise.

The Sunshine Coast is one of the most desirable parts of Australia to live and visit, and for that reason many members of the LGBTIQ community choose to stay and visit here on the Sunshine Coast. Sunshine Coast Pride is designed to help the gay community here band together in mutual celebration, acceptance, recognition and strength. The Sunshine Coast Pride Festival is an annual event organised by

a dedicated Committee of volunteers and is about providing a safe and fun environment for LGBTIQ people, their family and friends, to come together and celebrate our diversity on the Coast. From it's humble beginnings, the Festival has grown to be several events over a weekend. The Festival is to celebrate not only the local LGBTIQ community but beyond.

This Pride Month, Scouts Australia celebrates diversity, inclusion, and the importance of creating safe and welcoming spaces for everyone.

Scouting is for all young people - a place where everyone can belong, be themselves, and feel supported to grow, learn, and thrive.

Together, we continue to build a movement where everyone is valued, respected, and empowered to be themselves. 🌈

TODAY IS IDAHOBIT 🌈

On May 17, we recognise the strength, pride, and visibility of LGBTIQA+ Sistergirl and Brotherboy communities. This day marks the anniversary of 1990, when the World Health Organisation removed homos*xuality from the International Classification of Diseases, a powerful milestone in our shared history.

While we’ve made progress, stigma, discrimination, and exclusion still impact our lives every day, from healthcare to housing, work to connection.

This IDAHOBIT, let’s stand together to challenge discrimination and continue building a Queensland where everyone belongs, feels safe to be visible, and where our diversity is recognised, respected, and celebrated. 💜

Today is IDAHOBIT — the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, discrimination against inters*x people and Transphobia. 🌈

A global moment to stand against discrimination and come together for equality!

Did you know:
• 65 UN member States still criminalise consensual same-s*x s*xual acts
• At least 62 restrict freedom of expression based on s*xual orientation, gender identity and expression, and s*x characteristics
• Legal gender recognition based on self-identification exists in just 18 countries
• Only 9 countries prohibit unnecessary medical interventions on inters*x children
• In Australia, it’s still legal to discriminate against LGBTQ+ people in religious schools and by faith-based service providers

Behind every statistic are people in our communities being denied safety, recognition and equality.

While our experiences may differ across the world, our hope is shared: to live freely, equally and without discrimination - and to be accepted for who we are.

Share this post. Show your solidarity. Stand with LGBTQIA+ communities everywhere.

A major win for trans rights!

The Full Court of the Federal Court has upheld the right of trans women to live free from discrimination, confirming that Roxanne Tickle was unlawfully excluded from the Giggle for Girls app because she is trans.

In a judgment handed down in Sydney on Friday, the Court dismissed an appeal by Sall Grover, finding that Ms Tickle was directly discriminated against on two counts because of her gender identity.

The Court also increased damages to $20,000 after taking into account Ms Grover’s aggravating conduct.

For decades, Australian law has recognised that a person’s legal s*x is not limited to the s*x they were assigned at birth — any other interpretation would deny the reality and existence of trans people.

The decision affirms that trans women, like all women, deserve to live safely, participate fully in society, and be treated with dignity and respect.

If you’re LGBTIQA+ and 18+, take the survey now.

📣If you know any LGBTIQA+ folks, please share this post widely!

Private Lives 4 is the fourth iteration of this landmark survey, and we need LGBTIQA+ adults to tell us about their health, wellbeing, lives, challenges, joys and communities.

Results from this survey - funded by the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability and Ageing - will help inform policy, advocacy, service providers, health professionals and more about the needs, strengths and priorities of LGBTIQA+ adults in Australia.

Our major population surveys are the largest source of Australian data on the health and wellbeing of our communities, so we need as many people as possible to participate!
