🔥🚒🧯 Mini Summer Exercise 🧯🚒🔥

Today Nangiloc Fire Brigade was proud to host CFA Sunraysia Fire Brigades Group, Merbein Fire Brigade, Irymple Fire Brigade, Carwarp Fire Brigade and Red Cliffs Fire Brigade brigades today for the 25/26 pre-summer exercise.

After last year’s exercise was postponed due to operational demands across the region + strike team deployments. It was great to see members come together to focus on core summer firefighting skills and training.

These training days play an important role in keeping our crews prepared. Training alongside our neighbouring brigades strengthens our response capability and helps ensure we’re ready to protect our community when it matters most.

🔥 Strike Team Deployment 🔥

CALL-OUT 4/02/2026 - 8/02/2026
LOCATION: Deep Creek South Australia

On Wednesday the 4/2/2026 one of our own members headed over to South Australia to form up Strike Team 1822 to go and assist CFS crews at a complex fire burning in the Mount Lofty Rangers in the Deep Creek National Park near Cape Jarvis on the peninsula.

Lieutenant Troy Peirce was accompanied by Lieutenant Jack Ward from the Red Cliffs Fire Brigade and Lieutenant Grant Rayson from the Tongala Fire Brigade. All 3 members put their hands up to go on the 5 day deployment 1 day travel, 3 days working on the fire ground and then 1 day travel home. Jack, Troy & Grant crewed the Ultra Heavy Tanker from Ouyen for the 5 days working alongside SA Parks, SA MFS, SA CFS, NSWRFS Strike Team’s, QLD Fire & Rescue & specialists fire fighters from Western Australia.

The boys did a variety of tasks. Given the difficulty of the terrain the crews conducted a lot of controlled burns to stop the fire from running out into private land. Some of the other jobs the boys did was, filling up both CFA and CFS tankers to allow them to keep operating without turning round to fill up, blacking out, asset protection on a cottage and the Deep Creek NP depot/office.

The boys moved 100,000 litres of water over the 3 days they were on the fire ground. Aircraft heavily supported the crews putting in retardant lines and fire bombing areas of which crews could simply not get too given the difficulty terrain.

Strike Team 1822 was made up of a mixed district 18 & 20 Strike Team consisting of Sunraysia’s Group FCV as the STL vehicle, Ouyen Ultra Heavy Tanker, Watchem Ultra Heavy Tanker, Bamawm Extension Tanker 1, Romsey Tanker 1, Inglewood Tanker, D20 FOV & the Maryborough bus.

A second strike team was also deployed from district 16 and 15 and those appliances consisted of Eureka Group FCV, Daylesford Tanker 1, Bacchus Marsh Tanker 1, Creswick Tanker, Buninyong MT Helen Tanker 1 & Miners Rest Tanker 1. These appliances formed up as Strike Team 1501.

All 3 members had a great time away supporting our sister agency the CFS and both agreed it was a pleasure to work along side crews from both strike teams and interstate crews also!

🔥 TOTAL FIRE BAN – STATE WIDE 🔥

The whole state of Victoria will be under a Total Fire Ban tomorrow. This means no fires are permitted in the open air — no burning off, no campfires, and no use of solid fuel barbecues. Hot, dry, and windy conditions mean any spark could quickly turn into a dangerous fire.

🚫 What You CAN’T Do:
• No burning off or incinerators.
• No campfires, bonfires, or solid fuel BBQs (wood, charcoal, etc.).
• No welding, grinding, or cutting metal in the open air.
• No use of farm machinery that could start a fire unless it’s essential and all fire safety precautions are in place.

✅ What You CAN Do:
• Use gas or electric BBQs only if:
• They are fixed appliances under a roof within 2 metres of non-flammable material; or
• They are portable gas/electric BBQs in a cleared area at least 3 metres from flammable materials, and you have a supply of water or extinguisher on hand.
• Drive only on well-cleared tracks and avoid dry grass where your exhaust could start a fire.

🔥 If a fire starts:
• Call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
• Don’t assume someone else has reported it.
• Follow the VicEmergency app, local radio, or CFA social media for updates.
• If you feel unsafe, leave early — do not wait until you see smoke or flames.

Stay alert, stay informed, and help us keep our community safe.
Together, we can all play a part in preventing fires this summer.

🔥 Strike Team Deployment 🔥

CALL-OUT 11/01/2026 & 12/01/2026
LOCATION: Pine Plains Patchewollock

No rest for members of the Nangiloc Fire Brigade. Nangiloc Lieutenant Troy Peirce was off on deployment to the Boinka Fire on Sunday and Monday apart of Strike Team 1892.

Strike Team 1892 was made up of a Ultralight strike team consisting of Merbein Ultralight, Irymple Ultralight and Meringur/Werrimul Ultralight. Red Cliffs FCV was the Strike Team leader vehicle who was in charge of the 3 ultralights.

Troy was the strike team leader and was overseeing all operations and tasking that were given to him and his crews to preform.

Over the 2 days crews from Red Cliffs Fire Brigade Merbein Fire Brigade Irymple Fire Brigade & Mildura Fire Brigade all assisted in crewing the appliances. Crews did 10 hour shifts on the fire ground and were faced with some very difficult terrain.

Crews assisted Forest Fire Management Victoria with fire patrols along the Northern Sector and in the fire ground itself. Crews were responding quickly to outbreaks where the fire had jumped out of the park and into private property.

Both CFA and FFMV ground crews were heavily assisted by 2 water bombing aircraft who were able to drop retardant lines down to help keep the fire at bay.

Here are some photos from what the crews got up too below!

🔥 Grass & Scrub Fire Spreading 🔥

CALL-OUT @ 12:12
LOCATION: Browns Road Colignan

At lunch time yesterday the Nangiloc Fire Brigade along with Red Cliffs Fire Brigade, Carwarp Fire Brigade, Mildura Fire Brigade and Irymple Fire Brigade were paged to a grass and scrub fire spreading rapidly at the end of Browns road!

While en route it was quite adamant given the large building smoke column that crews were responding to a fire of some significance and size. Further escalation was made to page for Irymple and Merbein Ultralights to make eaiser acsees to the fire along with Merbein tanker also (Merbein Fire Brigade).

Crews arrived on scene to major spotting from where the fire originally started. The fire spotted into the Hattah Kulkyne National Park and took off.

Crews placed pumpers and tankers at strategic locations around the park to provide asset protection to near by homes that were in the impact line if the fire was to of escaped from the park.

Thankfully the fire was kept contained to the park and the threat to private land was reduced.

The Sunraysia Group FOV and FCV (CFA Sunraysia Fire Brigades Group) also responded to assist with radio communication and fire ground management. Mildura rehab responded too to assist with fire fighter welfare and rehabilitation.

Nyah Nyah West FCV (Nyah Nyah West Fire Brigade) responded to assist with ground intelligence and ground observations and give warnings to those members of the community who were required to be told.

Crews were heavily supported by ground crews from Forest Fire Management Victoria (Forest Fire Management Victoria) who came from Mildura, Robinvale and Swan Hill providing a CTL for track clearing, slip ons and G-Wagons for fire extinguishment and a Bird Dog that gave us eyes on the fire from the sky.

The fire yesterday was very hot and intense all crews did a magnificent job and the Nangiloc Fire Brigade is very grateful for all our sister brigades and agencies who assisted us with this large fire.

Red Cliffs Tanker 2, Merbein Tanker, Irymple and Merbein Ultralights along with the Sunraysia Group FOV & FCV remained on scene late into the night blacking out and providing asset protection were needed while also supporting FFMV.

A massive thank you to the Nangiloc Tavern for staying open so we were able to fill our trucks up with fuel, get bags of ice and be open for whatever we may of needed!

And lastly Thank you to the community for your kind words and messages and kind offers to come help with whatever we may of needed!

Please note the fire in the park is still burning and there will be a number of Forest Fire Management Vehicles in the area for some time. Please keep clear of the park and have the Vic Emergency app downloaded to stay up to date with any changing conditions that may arise.
