Good news for our community and biodiversity… Not so good for invasive species!

The Shire of Nannup has secured funding through the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Community Stewardship Grants Program to develop a Shire-wide Invasive Species Management Plan.

🌱 Why this matters
Invasive weeds, feral animals and other introduced pests are an increasing threat to our forests, waterways, farmland and native wildlife. This project will deliver a coordinated, long-term approach to identify priority areas, guide future management, and protect the natural values that make Nannup such a special place.

🤝 A collaborative approach
This plan will be shaped by local knowledge and experience. Landholders, community groups, Traditional Owners, environmental organisations and government agencies will work together to ensure it reflects local priorities and delivers practical outcomes.

📣 How you can get involved
Community input is key to making this plan effective. You can:
• Attend upcoming workshops and information sessions
• Share your knowledge through surveys and consultations
• Help identify local issues and priority areas
• Stay informed via Shire updates and project communications

📊 Looking ahead
The plan will also strengthen the Shire’s ability to secure future funding for on-ground action by providing a clear, evidence-based framework.

🙏 The Shire thanks the Western Australian Government for its support, along with local residents, landholders and community groups already contributing to the protection of Nannup’s natural environment.

This project is supported by funding from the Western Australian Government’s State NRM Program, see: www.wa.gov.au

🚴‍♀️ Thanking Volunteers who expressed interest – MTB Clinic Support 🚴‍♀️ They have enough helpers now! and are very grateful.

The Cape to Cape MTB Skills Clinic (Women Only) is coming to Nannup on 18–19 July, designed for beginners and those building confidence ahead of the 2026 Cape to Cape.

Led by experienced coach Andy van Kann, alongside 2025 Cape to Cape winner Sarah Tucknott, the clinic offers a supportive, welcoming space for women to learn, connect and challenge themselves on the trails.

We’re currently expecting 22+ and very grateful for those who volunteered to help out as volunteer tail riders to help us safely support each group on the trails after this callout.

👉 What’s involved:
• Riding at the back of groups to ensure no one is left behind
• No coaching required – just a supportive presence
• Helping create a safe and positive experience

👉 What you’ll receive:
• Cape to Cape merchandise
• Snacks and hydration
• Plenty of smiles, laughs, and trail time!

If you can lend a hand, please email Bill Hayes via email:
