Fuel problems at 11pm south of Shark Island. A vessel unable to drop anchor and drifting further south.

Port Stephens 31 hit the water in the middle of the night to tow in a 6.2m runabout with 3 POB.

The vessel was in a communications black spot and precise coordinates could not be obtained prior to our volunteers heading out. Our crew located them and commenced the tow just after midnight. They were returned safely to Little Beach by 1:30am.

It gets wet on the back deck! On the day of the CHC helicopter exercise our crew on back deck were saturated from waist down. Not a bad day for it.

The clearer picture was taken with the cabin door open. The helicopter went away from Port Stephens 31 momentarily. We keep it closed because of the noise. The deck crew wear ear muffs as part of the PPE for helo exercises.

Marine Rescue Port Stephens trains with many agencies. It is a very important part of maintaining proficiency so we can all provide assistance to the community.

Today we worked with a CHC helicopter. During the exercise the helicopter pilot kept a few metres above our moving boat while the winch operator lowered someone onto the back of the boat and then later retrieved them.

They demonstrated an incredible amount of skill being able to undertake these tasks safely.

We are proud to continue assisting with these training exercises on a regular basis.

You may have seen this one today 8:30am to midday between Soldiers Point and Shoal Bay.

Sunday afternoon at 2pm Port Stephens 31 was called to assist a vessel with its port engine overheating and its starboard engine having lost its mounting. The incident happened one nautical mile outside Tomaree Heads. Our crew was on scene by 3pm and towed the disabled vessel back to Soldiers Point Boat Ramp.

Another safe and professional task completed by our incredible volunteers! Thanks for coming out on the weekend to help the community!

Overnight our volunteer crew on Port Stephens 31 rescued two men and a very cute dog from near Little Island. They were called out just after midnight due to the vessel having engine problems. It was calm conditions but raining and pitch black. The moon only came out for about five minutes.

Everyone returned safe by 4am.
