🚨 Incident Call 🚨

Just after 7pm last night, we were paged to Gimmer Rd, Box Hill alongside Oakville Rural Fire Brigade.

A fat fire had occurred from meat cooking on a BBQ. Luckily, the residents had a fire extinguisher and fire blanket at home, so they were quick to help suppress the fire before RFS crews arrived.

Fire extinguishers and blankets are such a vital home fire safety resource because they allow homeowners to respond quickly to small fires by smothering them before they spread and cause serious damage.

Always remember, fire extinguishers and blankets are intended for small, contained fires. If the fire is growing, producing significant smoke, or threatening people or property, evacuate and call 000 immediately.

National Volunteer Week 🫶🏽🤝🏽

The past few days, May 18 to 24, encompassed Australia’s largest annual celebration of volunteering. With the theme of “Your Year to Volunteer”, we’d like to say a huge thank you to our members, their families and our community for enabling and supporting us to do what we do. Especially to our volunteers, your dedication and commitment to the service is admirable.

To all our amazing mums, we wish you a Happy Mother’s Day. A huge thank you for all that you do to support your families, our brigade and the community.

Today’s also a great day to do mum a favour and check the smoke detectors. It only takes a few minutes to do, and remember, a simple check now, saves lives.

On Monday night, we held our 2026 Annual General Meeting. It has been an eventful past year, with lots of call outs, hazard reductions and deployments. We’d like to thank all our members for their time and dedication and to their families for supporting the brigade over the last year. Specifically, to the 2025 coordinators team, thank you for your leadership and commitment. To the 2026 coordinators team, congratulations and welcome to your new and continuing roles.

We’d also like to congratulate the following members that were awarded the NSW Premier’s Flood Emergency Citation for their invaluable work during the 2022 and 2023 floods across NSW.

🔥 Hazard Reductions 🔥

With favourable weather conditions occurring, you may have noticed an increase in smoke in the area. The past 2 days, crews have been working round the clock at the Bannerman Rd hazard reduction and the Wisemans Ferry Rd hazard reduction.

Yesterday, Box Hill/Nelson’s CAT7 was working alongside other trucks on the fire ground at the Bannerman HR.

As the sun rose over Sydney this morning, Box Hill/Nelson 1 was stationed in the city assisting with the ANZAC Day services.

We’d like to thank our firefighters Hayden and Matt, who represented our Brigade in providing public safety and awareness.
