From 1 July 2021 a range of single-use plastic items will be banned in Queensland, including straws, stirrers, cutlery and plates.
We passed these laws in parliament to help protect our waterways, our reef, our wildlife, our state.
Almost 20,000 responses were received from Queenslanders around the proposed changes, with 94 per cent of submissions in favour of the ban.
The new laws also feature exemptions for those who require single-use plastic items due to disability or healthcare needs.
