Newcastle and Hunter Toy Library

Newcastle and Hunter Toy Library Newcastle Toy Library is an amazing service that allows children to borrow toys. Family members can borrow 6 toys. It's a great way to try before you buy!

A terrific service run by volunteers, the Newcastle Toy Library is based at New Lambton Library. Individual members can borrow three toys for up to a month, or swap it each week, its up to them! We have puzzles, blocks, Lego, bikes, babies toys, dress ups, musical instruments and more. See our photos for a selection of the toys we have available. Membership is $35 per year and $45 per family of

two children or more. Family Day Care or playgroups are also welcome to join and borrow toys for their group to enjoy. We are open Saturday mornings from 9:30am until 11:45am, so bring the kids and let them come and test the toys before they decide which one to borrow!

🚨 Volunteers urgently needed! 🚨

We’re currently short on volunteers and need your help to keep things running. If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now is the time—your support will make an immediate difference.

Even an hour here or there can help us stay open and continue supporting our community. Whether you can help regularly or just step in for a shift, we’d love to have you on board!

Please send us a message or get in touch as soon as you can if you’re able to help.

💛 We really can’t do this without you!

Did you know that a toy library membership is just $2 per week (on average).
That gives your family access to hundreds of age appropriate toys that grow with your child as they develop and their interests change.

It's less toys filling up your home. Once your children are bored with a toy, pack it up and swap it at the toy library for something new and exciting 🔁

Drop into your nearest toy library and see what's available.

In exciting news, our Click and Collect service is now ready for toy library members to use!

Thanks to funding from the new click and collect service will extend the hours per week that families are able to borrow from the toy library, greatly improving accessibility for families who cannot make it to the toy library during our current 2 borrowing sessions.

Orders are filled on Wednesdays, and can be collected anytime during the New Lambton Library opening hours (9.30am-6pm on Mondays, 9.30am-5pm all other weekdays, and 9.30am-1pm on Saturdays). Our colourful lockers are located on the lower floor of the New Lambton Library, inside the entry to the toy library.

For more information, swipe across to see our How To Use guide or go to our website to view the instructions and watch a short video tutorial about how to book a Click & Collect appointment.

For any questions about the Click & Collect service please contact us at [email protected], send us a Facebook message or ask in-person during one of our borrowing sessions.

👉 For every $1 invested in a toy library, $4.22 of social value is created.

That’s the headline finding from our new independent report, Valuing Play: The Social Impact of Toy Libraries in Australia.

We’ve always seen the impact in our communities. Now we have the evidence to back it up.
The research shows toy libraries help:

🧸 Build strong home learning environments
💛 Reduce financial stress for families
🤝 Increase social connection and community participation
🌱 Support sustainability through sharing and reuse

All families reported benefits, including families raising children with disability or developmental delay.

Toy libraries are a low-cost, high-impact investment in children, families and communities.
