ProCare / Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance Local People Saving Local Lives The charity focuses on the Hunter New England Region, where currently more men die of prostate cancer than anywhere else in NSW.

The Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance (HPCA) is active in increasing awareness of the importance of early diagnosis of prostate cancer, promoting testing, and providing support for sufferers. A reason for this is that there was not enough awareness of the disease in this region. A key feature of our charity is that we are the only known organisation in Australia that offers a free service provided b

y counsellors that are fully qualified and registered with national industry associations. HPCA services the entire Hunter New England Region, providing:
* Free qualified counselling to men and their families with fully qualified and registered with national industry association
* A referral service to General Practitioners and Urologists where they can send their patients, at no charge, for support counselling and further information
* Education seminars throughout the community and male dominated workplaces
* Media awareness through strong links with television, radio, newspapers and industry magazines
* Fundraising and Awareness events at various places throughout Newcastle, the Hunter Valley, Lake Macquarie and Bay Area to increase the awareness of prostate cancer and encourage early detection.

A Night of Knights! A HUGE thank you to Michael Hagan, Danny Buderus, Billy Peden, Glen Hawke (Host) & EVERYONE who came out on Thursday night to support the Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance (HPCA) at Lexie's Crow's Nest 🙏

Michael Hagan is hosting a charity dinner at Lexies Crow’s Nest in Stockton on September 25th alongside special guest speakers, former Newcastle Knights legends, Danny Buderus and Billy Peden.

The night will be MC’d by the voice of Newcastle Knights, Glen Hawke. The boys will be discussing Michael Hagan’s prostate cancer journey in which he was diagnosed at just 44yo. As well as mens mental health and of course, plenty of footy talk! Especially that 2001 Grand Final win with all three playing pivotal roles.

During the month of September, HPCA is proud to be working with some very generous community partners to raise much needed awareness and funds which will enable us to continue to support men, along with their partners, families and friends, living with a prostate cancer diagnosis.

This evening Belmont 16s Sailing Club are holding Lager & Legends: Cheers for a Cause event between 4pm and 6pm. $1 from every Lion Beer purchased will be donated to the Hunter Prostate Cancer Hunter-Prostate Cancer-Alliance. In March , 2024, we lost a true local legend, Edward "Leigh" Maughan. He was the voice of sport in the Hunter, the founding father of the Newcastle Knights, and the man who saved our Hunter Prostate Cancer Alliance. Leigh’s tireless passion for footy, family, friends and our community was undeniable. The impact he had on Newcastle during his lifetime cannot be overstated, and we at HPCA and ProCare wish to celebrate his achievements and honour his memory.
