June has delivered some of our region's largest floods, so this Throwback Thursday we are sharing a series of images from the Maitland flood of June 1949. Prior to the levee being built, floods of the town and surrounding areas were a regular occurrence. These pics from our Newcastle Morning Herald Collection show the effects of the flood, as well as the clean up afterwards. Both of which seem to have been met with good-natured stoicism!

Today is International Burger Day, an excuse to share this pic of Keith making burgers at his kitchen in 1961 with some adoring onlookers. Located in Pacific St, Newcastle, Keith’s Kitchen was a local institution. Who remembers going to Keith’s?
