Aussies Wrap Up!
This year 11 masters competitors headed up to Nth Kirra, supported by Brad Kinniard as our official and Dan Lariatt as our chief cheerleader. Our team in age order Jack Harkness, Francesca Annabel Mortell, Alice Nolan, Brendan Kaz, Stephanie Guy, Ryan Shelley, Adam Metcalf, John Lawson, Lee Howes, Tim Howes and Alan Metcalf.
Day 1 was the ocean swim in perfect conditions. Results
🥉Steph, Kaz, Alice
4th - Fran and Al, 8th - John and Tim 10th
Day 2 - mostly individual and board rescues. The conditions were very different with the swell jacking up and some very tricky surf. No medals day 2 but some notable mentions.
Steph 4th in the swim, Jack and Ryan 5th in the board rescue and Steph and Fran 6th in the board rescue. Top ten finishes for Lee, Alice and Ryan. Adam and Al both sustained injuries in their board finals.
Day 3 -Teams Day! Epic! The swell really jumped with 8-10 ft waves crashing on the outer bank. Events were cancelled and changed but somehow some racing got done. It was an achievement just to make it around the cans. The boys all managed to complete their swim team and board relay. Al came 4th in the 1km run.
The girls team of Lee, Steph and Alice won Silver in a very gritty board relay and then the entire 130 swim race had to be rescued in the swim team as they were all being swept at an alarming rate into the next competition area. Then an epic swim and board by Steph and Alice and a less than epic run leg by Lee won a GOLD in the taplin. (Skis were cancelled which meant Lee had to run🤣🤣🤣🤣)
The day was wrapped up with Frans 5th in the flags.
A massive shout out to Brad for being our official for the 2 days and to Al who at 77yrs old has completed his last Aussies after a super stellar career.

Saturday 20 December
Silent reflection on the water’s edge

Bondi Surf Bathers' Life Saving Club and North Bondi SLSC invite lifesavers across Australia to come together at the start of their patrols on Saturday to observe 3 minutes of silence to pay our respects. They would like to encourage you to wear your patrol uniforms, stand shoulder to shoulder in a line along the shore facing the sea, and observe a 3-minute silence before your patrol commences.

We stand shoulder to shoulder to show we are a united group of surf lifesavers and lifeguards across the country.

We encourage you to do this as a show of support for fellow lifesavers and recognition of the tragedy that has unfolded at Bondi while also reflecting on our respect and compassion for the Jewish community targeted by this attack.

We ask that there are no speeches, just silence, as we pay respects to those who lost their lives, those who risked their lives, those who worked so hard to save lives, and all of us who will never forget.
