Nova for Women and Children: Homelessness and Domestic Violence Service

Together we can achieve change and make a difference in the lives of women and children impacted by domestic and family violence.

Thank you to Ged Kearney and Sharon Claydon MP for seeking information and connecting with knowledge of local support organisations like Nova.

This morning, Hunter DFV Consortium member organisations, and the PHN, men’s behaviour change, health, legal, university, victim support, and women’s health services in Newcastle had the opportunity to speak with the Hon Ged Kearney MP at a Roundtable to End Violence Against Women and Children, organised by Member for Newcastle Sharon Claydon MP.

While it was important to highlight the gaps and challenges we continue to see across our region, the conversation also reinforced something we should be proud of: the strength of collaboration across the Hunter.

We work across our sectors, share resources, establish partnerships, find solutions and develop innovative approaches to better support victim-survivors and prevent violence.

This collaborative approach is something we need to continue, strengthen and expand.

But collaboration takes time, expertise and resources, and that work needs to be recognised and funded.

If we are serious about ending violence against women and children, then governments, funding bodies and grant programs need to invest in the roles that build and maintain partnerships, relationships, and collaborations, support coordination, drive innovation and strengthen our region’s collective capacity.

It’s taken a lot of planning, effort and hardwork to merge our hubs into our new Nova Women’s Hub at Broadmeadow. We are so grateful for the support of our community partners like the volunteers from the C3 victory Church’s yard maintenance team, who gave their time to clean up the outdoor spaces at one of our previous sites.

It's day two of our new Nova Women's Hub, and we have already welcomed our first clients.

The Nova Women's Hub is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 am to 3.30 pm.

We’re looking forward to welcoming our clients and community to our new Women’s Hub at 22 Lambton Road, Broadmeadow. The Women’s Hub opens to the community on Monday, August 31, 2026.

The Women’s Hub opening hours will be:

Monday: 10 am to 3.30 pm
Wednesday: 10 am to 3.30 pm
Thursday: 10 am to 3.30 pm
Friday: 10 am to 3.30 pm

Our new Nova Women's Hub opens to clients and community next Monday, August 31, 2026. This move has been months in the planning and making, and creating this trauma-informed space has been a genuine community effort.

The Nova Women's Hub is located near the Broadmeadow Train Station and is accessible by public transport for women and children from both sides of Lake Macquarie and Newcastle.

The Hub will be a one-stop shop for women and children leaving domestic violence or looking to start again after homelessness, where they can access everything from a shower and clothes washing, and essential items like food, toiletries and sanitary items.

We are also innovating how we deliver services and support our community, with plans for our specialist caseworkers to share the space with partners from the domestic violence and homelessness sector.

We'll share more information about our new Nova's Women Hub soon, and celebrate the local businesses and organisations which have helped us make this dream a reality.

It’s been a community effort to bring our vision of a Women’s Hub, for the women of Lake Macquarie and Newcastle to life.

A special thanks to the volunteers from Habitat for Humanity and Hairy Phish for creating a space for the women and children we support to start over after homelessness or domestic violence.

Our new Nova Women’s Hub opens to clients and community at 22 Lambton Road, Broadmeadow, on Monday, August 31, 2026.

Special Announcement - ACON Hunter is moving from Monday 21 September 2026!

We are very excited to announce that after many years in our current location, the time has come for us to move to our new home, (just around the corner) at 33 Fern St, Islington, NSW.

Over the next few weeks we will be working behind the scenes to move all of the same great services that you have come to know and trust.

We will be keeping you in the loop with changes you may notice while we set up our new home. Keep your eyes on our socials over the next few weeks to follow this exciting time and great new chapter for ACON in the Hunter.
