***DARC-BICS supports Fix Our City Meeting***
June 2010
Pro-developer group 'Developers Against the Rail Corridor- Building In the Corridor Soon' (DARC-BICS) held a rally enthusiastically supporting the 'Fix Our City' public meeting in Newcastle on June 3.
Four members of the group stood on the front steps of town hall and threw insults at the 'anti-progress heathen troglodytes' from Save Our Rail who had gathered across the street.
Chanting "the speculators, united, will never be defeated", the group declared that they were on 'developer strike' and would not improve the many vacant and run down buildings they own in the Hunter until their demand that the rail line be removed is met.
Spokesman for the group Paul McCoy said that ‘We have waited far too long for the NSW government to remove this train line so that we can build on it".
At one point Paul Murphy, Hilton Grugeon and Jeff McCloy from Fix Our City approached the four and commented that it was funny that "the unions were across the street protesting against their own government".
Extending upon the "three stooges" clever comedic ruse, the DARC-BICS GROUP said "yes, yes, Frank Sartor- He's a union man through and through! Jodi McKay, she is a unionist from way back" before breaking our stridently in their chant of the day "the speculators, united, will never be defeated".
DARC-BICS member Prunella Sidebottom said "we don't care about peak oil- we can afford $5 per litre petrol".
An article in the Newcastle Herald on June 4 erroneously linked the group to the community organisation Save Our Rail.
The group attended the FOC meeting and applauded loudly after each speaker finished their piece. Paul McCoy said that times were changing and member for Newcastle Jodi McKay needed to "wake up and smell the DARC-BICS".
