Men’s Health Week

At Awabakal, we know that looking after your mental health is just as important as looking after your physical health.

This week, we’re shining a spotlight on the voices of our male staff members as they share their personal mental health tips, strategies, and advice that help them stay strong, connected, and well.

Keep an eye on our page over the coming days as we share their insights and encourage conversations around mental health, resilience, and wellbeing.

Sometimes the smallest tip can make the biggest difference.

💙 June-Bowel Cancer Awareness Month 💙

Did you know bowel cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia, but when found early, it is also one of the most treatable?

If you are aged 45–74 years, bowel screening could save your life. The test is simple, free, and can be completed in the privacy of your own home. Early detection can make a significant difference to treatment outcomes.

Know the signs:
🔹 Changes in bowel habits
🔹 Blood or mucus in your stool
🔹 Unexplained weight loss
🔹 Fatigue and weakness
🔹 Persistent abdominal discomfort

Even if you feel well, it’s important to complete your bowel screening test when invited. Many people with early bowel cancer have no symptoms.

Need help with your bowel screening kit or have questions?
Our team is here to support you. Have a yarn with an Aboriginal Health Practitioner, nurse, or our cancer care team by calling 1300 174 908.

Looking after our mob starts with looking after ourselves. 💙
