Yesterday Newrybar 9 assisted with the Mud Flat Road Fire near Drake. A big day for Gary and Mal driving there, working all day, and driving back again. No wonder Mal looks a little disheveled.

Early this morning Newrybar 1 responded to a truck well alight on the M1 at Knockrow. Other RFS crews included Lennox Head, Byron Bay, Clunes and the Far North Coast Cat 6 Bulk Water tanker. We worked with Fire and Rescue to control the fire and make the area safe. The M1 north bound was unavoidably blocked for hours with traffic being diverted along Hinterland Way.

Thanks to Bangalow markets for inviting us once again to collect parking money for a generous donation to Newrybar RFS, and thanks so much to Yvonne, Arthur and Zofie for first shift and then Rosy, Marcus and Malcolm for the second (pic). Money raised like this helps us to purchase necessary ‘tools’. In this case it will assist in new head torches amongst other things.

This afternoon Newrybar 1 responded to a power pole on fire. Following isolation of the area from electrical current and earthing the power lines by Essential Energy, we were able to extinguish the Fire at the top of the pole. It is extremely important to keep well away, at least 8 meters, from any dangerous or fallen power lines and report them immediately by calling 000.
