🚨 One broken shock absorber = serious safety risk.

During a recent vehicle inspection, Safety and Compliance officers found damaged suspension components on two trailers of an 11-axle B-double.

One trailer had a broken shock absorber, while the other had loose shock absorber mounts and upper cross member mounting bolts. Damaged, loose or missing suspension components can affect vehicle movement, cause abnormal wear to other components and increase the risk of an on-road failure. Two defect notices were issued.

Make sure your suspension components are regularly checked and maintained to help keep both you and others safe on the road.

Transport and Main Roads Queensland advises drivers travelling through South East Queensland of upcoming closures to the Bremer River Westbound Bridge in Karelee:

⛔ 10pm Friday 23 October 2026 to 4am Saturday 24 October 2026
⛔ 10pm Friday 6 November 2026 to 5am Monday 9 November 2026

Traffic will be diverted onto the eastbound Bremer Bridge during this time with oversize loads exceeding 3.5m in width required to use a temporary detour via Walloon.

NHVR Safety and Compliance Officers demonstrated a range of vehicle safety checks including brake and suspension inspections at the Technical Maintenance Conference in Melbourne last week.

The demonstration was conducted using the regulator’s vehicle inspection trailer, which features testing equipment including a roller brake tester and shaker.
