𝐓𝐎𝐃𝐀𝐘 | 𝐀 𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐇𝐀𝐖𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐑𝐍 𝐑𝐒𝐋

This morning, after years of work, we finally get to share something very special with our community.

Today at 10:30am, we will formally unveil the updated Hawthorn Cenotaph, recognising service in Cambodia, Somalia, Rwanda, East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan.

We will also reopen the doors of our Sub-Branch and show just how much has changed.

The timing is especially meaningful.

Across 29 and 30 August 2012, five Australian soldiers were killed in Afghanistan: Mervyn McDonald, Nathanael Galagher, Stjepan ‘Milo’ Milosevic, Robert Poate and James Martin.

Today, we remember them.

We remember all those who have served, the families who served alongside them, and those who never came home.

And we look forward too.

Our updated cenotaph and our renewed Sub-Branch represent the same commitment: remembering the past, recognising the service of today’s veterans, and building a strong veteran community for the future.

It has been a long road to get here.

Today we finally get to open the gates, open the doors and welcome you in.

We hope you’ll join us.
