Welcome to Carpentaria Shire – where the Outback meets the Sea. Carpentaria Shire is located on the Savannah Way in North Western Queensland in the south eastern region of the Gulf of Carpentaria. The Shire covers an area of approximately 65,000 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 2,200 with the countryside ranging from vast inland plains to mangrove forests, deltas and saltpans along the coastal areas of the Gulf. Through Facebook, Council aims to keep you up to date on all the latest news, events as well as other council initiatives and activities. Posts will include:

- links to interesting and useful information about the Carpentaria Shire published on Council’s website and the internet.
- replies and direct messages. Please note that Council’s page is moderated and any vexatious, defamatory or malicious comments will be removed. Do not:
