Carpentaria Shire Council Carpentaria Shire is located in the Gulf of Carpentaria. It is known as “the outback by the sea”, with it’s two main townships being Normanton & Karumba.

Welcome to Carpentaria Shire – where the Outback meets the Sea. Carpentaria Shire is located on the Savannah Way in North Western Queensland in the south eastern region of the Gulf of Carpentaria. The region is uniquely placed to offer residents and visitors opportunities and experiences in lifestyle, holidays, employment and investment opportunities. Carpentaria Shire is the traditional country o

f the Gkuthaarn, Kukatj and Kurtijar people. The Shire covers an area of approximately 65,000 square kilometres and has a population of approximately 2,200 with the countryside ranging from vast inland plains to mangrove forests, deltas and saltpans along the coastal areas of the Gulf. Through Facebook, Council aims to keep you up to date on all the latest news, events as well as other council initiatives and activities. Posts will include:
- upcoming events and activities happening in the Shire
- important news updates.
- links to interesting and useful information about the Carpentaria Shire published on Council’s website and the internet.
- replies and direct messages. Please note that Council’s page is moderated and any vexatious, defamatory or malicious comments will be removed. Do not:
- post anything that could be considered prejudicial, racist, off-topic, inflammatory, defamatory, repetitive, insulting, vexatious, offensive, false, misleading or otherwise inappropriate.
- swear. We want everyone to be comfortable visiting here to get the information we try to provide.
- harass or make personal attacks against other users, Councillors or Council staff. Please be respectful of others and their opinions.

Council is introducing Social Media Community Guidelines and if your comment violate these Community Guidelines, it will be deleted and you may be blocked from our social communities. Futsal at the Normanton Sports Centre

A big thank you to Eugene for travelling to Normanton to deliver our futsal program.

Families are encouraged to bring their children along to the Normanton Sports Centre to participate in futsal. The program is fun and engaging, while helping young people develop their skills and stay active.

💧 REMINDER: LEVEL 1 WATER RESTRICTIONS ARE IN PLACE

Please stick to your watering days and help conserve our water supply. With water demand increasing, Council is reminding residents in Normanton and Karumba to follow the Level 1 watering schedule and avoid unnecessary water use. Please don't waste water. Check for leaks, avoid overwatering and only use what you need.
