Fishability

Fishability provides a range of programs and plays an advocacy role in promoting inclusive participation in recreational fishing.

Fishability is a not for profit organisation that delivers programs and activities for anyone who wants to fish! We support all members of the community including those who require assistance with fishing, wheelchair access and amenities. We have identified the very best fishing spots in Western Australia for our community of more than 100 volunteers and 3000 anglers. Fishability started as a smal

l Perth based not for profit organisation in 2003 with a small handful of volunteers. We have now grown to an organisation of more than 100 volunteers and 3000 anglers across Perth, Geraldton, Mandurah, Albany, Busselton, Bunbury and Waroona. Nev Thomas was the founder of Fishability who worked as a volunteer liaison officer for the Department of Fisheries and checked bag limits. He discovered a group of people who were keen to fish but needed a helping hand and Fishability was born. Fishability acknowledges that our fishing activities are undertaken on the ancestral lands of the First Australians. We acknowledge the First Australians as the traditional owners of the lands where we fish and we pay our respects to their Elders both past and present.

Our August Roebourne and Surrounds day was another beauty!

Lots of regulars and due to parent/teacher meetings some lucky children had the day off school so could join in the fun with their families😊

Many members of our extended Fishability family will know the Vasse General Store and its owners Gloria and Neil. After 102 years in operation the store has closed its doors for the final time in what is the end of an era!

Gloria and her daughter Caroline (pictured here with our own Executive Officer Mike), in a lovely act of generosity got in touch with Fishability and donated fishing gear to our programs😍

Thank you so much and we know how much the community will miss this place and its owners!

Check out our Mandurah Fishability Van😍

Thanks to the generous donation from the Margaret Down Foundation for Disadvantaged Children, Mandurah's Van has had a much needed facelift!

A big shout out to the State Government and Rhys Williams MLA - State Member for Mandurah for their contribution to Mandurah Fishability!

With their support Mandurah was able to replace electronics and the bilge pump on the boat to keep the MV Fishability in top shape as well as purchase electric fishing reels for participants who find traditional reels a little hard to us. Additionally, a new laptop for administration of the program has been very well received!

Mandurah is one of our most popular programs - did you know that the volunteers just can't get enough of their fishing days and so under the steerage of Brian (who has a keen eye on the weather to make sure it can go ahead) Thursday's on the Jetty are still on!

To join in just head to Fishability Friends a couple of days before and see if the weather gods are in your favour - no need to book for these extra sessions, just turn up 😊
