Ports Victoria is proud to recognise and support the annual International Day for Women in Maritime, which is celebrated annually on 18 May.

The International Day for Women in Maritime was established by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2021, and its purpose is to recognise the contributions of women across maritime professions, including seafaring, engineering, logistics and leaderships roles, while promoting gender equality, inclusion and diversity in the sector.

Within the historically male-dominated seafaring and maritime industries, the IMO is committed to helping the industry move forward to support more women being represented across a broader range of roles.

The day encourages policy development, training opportunities and visibility for women in maritime careers and the theme for the 2026 celebration is “From Policy to Practice: Advancing Gender Equality for Maritime Excellence".

Ports Victoria’s Workplace, Health, Safety, Environment Advisor, Sarah Gordon reflects on her journey in the industry and what today means to her.

That’s a wrap on another fantastic Victorian cruise season.

We farewelled Crown Princess from Station Pier on Tuesday, closing out a busy and successful season on Melbourne’s waterfront.

This season, Station Pier welcomed 75 cruise ships from around the world, bringing tens of thousands of passengers and crew to Melbourne.

We were proud to welcome first-time visitors including Discovery Princess, Zaandam, Silver Dawn, Amera and Odyssey, alongside returning favourites like Norwegian Spirit.

From boutique vessels like The World to the season’s largest ship, the 330m Discovery Princess, it’s been fantastic to showcase Melbourne to visitors from across the globe.

Thanks from the Ports Victoria cruise team at Station Pier. We're already looking forward to seeing you next season!

Tomorrow, as Australia pauses to honour all those who have served and died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations, Ports Victoria joins in remembrance.

Station Pier holds a special place in that story. Originally known as Railway Pier, it has been part of the Anzac journey since 1889, when the first troops departed Melbourne aboard the Medic bound for the Boer War.

From South Africa, Australian service personnel went on to serve in World War I. Between 17 and 21 October 1914, 16 ships left Port Melbourne carrying troops, horses and supplies. Of the 330,000 Australians sent overseas, almost 60,000 never came home.

When war broke out again in 1939, tens of thousands more departed from the same pier. And when peace finally came, Railway Pier was also where tears of joy flowed as those who served returned home.

Lest We Forget.

As we lead into Anzac Day, there’s a special sight at Station Pier.

Royal Australian Navy ships HMAS Stuart and HMAS Brisbane have arrived in Melbourne, marking an important time of remembrance and reflection and Ports Victoria extends them a warm welcome.

Naval personnel from both vessels will also march in Melbourne’s Anzac Day Parade, joining with HMAS Cerberus as a formed contingent.

It’s a chance to pause, reflect, and acknowledge the service and sacrifice of those who have served our country ... past and present.

With a firm focus on the best of food and wine, Celebrity Cruises Celebrity Edge will be slipping into Station Pier on Saturday 18 April!

As part of a snappy eight-day cruise around Australia departing from Sydney, gourmand guests have been indulging in gourmet treats from Eden, Kangaroo Island and Adelaide before visiting Melbourne and then heading back to Sydney.

Built in 2018, 306m long and 39m wide Celebrity Edge can host up to 3,500 passengers serviced by 1377 crew.

With a firm focus on offering guests a range of top-class dining experiences and options Celebrity Edge has four main dining rooms and six specialty restaurants, totalling 15 eateries and 12 bars/lounges.

Celebrity Edge’s Grand Plaza is a real talking point. Located midship and spanning three decks, the Grand Plaza was inspired by the golden age of Transatlantic liners. Its centrepiece is “The Chandelier” a 5-tier installation weighing 7 tons, with 765 illuminated blades using dynamic LED lights that change from day to night.
