🚨 EXTREME FIRE DANGER & TOTAL FIRE BAN - TODAY 🚨

Today, Saturday 5 September, the Greater Sydney Region, including The Hills, is forecast to experience an EXTREME Fire Danger Rating, with a Total Fire Ban in place.

This means conditions are dangerous and any fire that starts has the potential to spread quickly and be difficult to control.

🚫 No fires in the open
🚫 No activities that can cause a fire, including hot works such as welding, grinding or gas cutting.

On an Extreme Fire Danger Day, the NSW RFS advises you to take action now to protect your life and property, check your bush fire survival plan and reconsider travelling through bush fire risk areas.

🔥 Please don't be the reason firefighters are called out tomorrow.

With the weather warming up and bush fire season underway, now is the time to make sure your property is prepared and your family knows what to do.

Stay informed. Stay alert. Stay safe.

Check the official NSW RFS Fire Danger Rating before heading out today, as ratings and bans can change.

🚒 Operation Readiness Check – Ready for the Season 🔥

Yesterday, the North Rocks crew completed our annual Operational Readiness Check - an important day in our calendar as we prepare for another bush fire season.

This is the day we make sure our appliances are ready to roll when the call comes. Every system, piece of equipment and operational requirement is checked, tested and logged so we know our trucks are ready to go when our community needs us.

Our Cat 1 passed with flying colours

Our Cat 7 is currently away getting a little bit of a makeover, so we'll have to wait a little longer to give that one its tick of approval.

We talk a lot about being prepared for the bush fire season, and this is one of the ways we make sure we are prepared. This check is locked into our calendar every year because being ready isn't something we leave until the first hot day - it's something we plan for.

A huge thank you to The Hills District Office, The Hills Support and The Hills Catering for all the work and support you provided throughout the day. Days like this simply wouldn't happen without the incredible people working behind the scenes to support our crews. cvfjhh

And now it's your turn...

🔥 The bush fire season is coming. Are you ready?

Take some time now to prepare your home, talk to your family and make sure you know what you will do if a bush fire threatens.

Don't wait for the fire season to start. Prepare now.

🚒🔥 Latte Hills Gets the NSW RFS Spotlight! 🔥🚒

We’re pretty proud to see something that started as a small training idea at North Rocks getting some serious attention!

The NSW RFS Media Team recently visited North Rocks to take a closer look at Latte Hills, our 6m x 4m training diorama that has grown over the years into a unique training facility for our brigade and others across the Service.

The visit has now resulted in Latte Hills being featured and promoted through NSW RFS member channels, giving brigades and members across the state the opportunity to see what we've been building and how it can be used for training.

Latte Hills has already had a pretty good run - from being used for training by North Rocks and other brigades, to featuring on Channel 7, and now getting some love from the NSW RFS Media Team.

What we're most excited about is the opportunity to see more brigades take advantage of the facility and use it to develop their incident management, decision-making and operational skills.

A huge thank you to the NSW RFS Media Team for coming out, spending time with our members and helping showcase something we're incredibly proud of.

And to everyone who's helped build, expand and maintain Latte Hills over the years - this one's for you. 👏

🚒 Multi-Brigade Training Exercise – Glenhaven 🔥

Saturday afternoon, 10 members from North Rocks joined Glenhaven, Kellyville, Box Hill, Rouse Hill and The Hills Communications Brigade for a valuable multi-brigade training exercise at a large retirement village in Glenhaven.

The exercise gave crews the opportunity to familiarise themselves with a complex site and work through a simulated incident response in an environment where good communication, planning and teamwork are essential.

For our members, it was a great chance to practise working alongside neighbouring brigades, understand the challenges of operating in a large retirement village and consider how we would respond when faced with a real incident.

Training together like this is incredibly valuable. It allows crews to build relationships, understand how other brigades operate and develop the skills needed to work effectively as one team when the call comes.

A huge thank you to Glenhaven Brigade for hosting and putting together such a worthwhile training exercise. 👏

🚒 Training... Then the Real Thing! 🔥

Today, North Rocks members took part in driver training and pre-fire season competency assessments, ensuring our appliance drivers are ready for the busy months ahead.

Driving a fire truck is very different from driving a normal car. With larger vehicles, specialised equipment and emergency conditions, it's essential that our drivers regularly train to maintain the skills and confidence needed to operate safely.

As the saying goes, you train like you fight... and today that proved true.

While returning to the station, both our Cat 1 and Cat 7 were responded to reports of smoke in the area. On arrival, crews discovered several unattended pile burns.

Working alongside crews from Kellyville and Glenhaven, the fires were quickly extinguished and the area made safe.

The incident also marked a special milestone for one of our newest firefighters, Ben, who attended his very first fire as a qualified Firefighter 1 & 2 member. Congratulations, Ben - we're sure it's the first of many, and we're proud to have you on the crew! 👏

Another great reminder that training isn't just something we do... it's what prepares us for the call that could come at any moment.
