Roof Safety System Builder Training

Northam, Merredin and Toodyay SES and Ballidu VFES members attended Northam SES Unit and participated in a training course to convert them to use the new Roof Safety System in preparation for the coming months callouts.

The new safety system is an improvement on the old system, and is easier to use and provides more safety for our members.

Working in the rain and on wet roofs is very dangerous and the use of a roof safety system is necessary to prevent injury to members.

This is just one of many skills learned by SES and VFES members so they can assist their community.

On Saturday Volunteers from Northam and Toodyay SES joined other Volunteer emergency services to assist with marshalling and crowd support while also assisting DFES with a display stand at the Beverley airshow. This was a very entertaining day for our members while supporting the community.

SES is not just about dealing with natural hazards but assisting with other community Safety tasks aswel.

Thank you to all that could assist.

Last night members did a bit of map and navigation exercise with a Easter twist.
Teams were told that the Easter bunny had lost his Easter eggs and were tasked with co-ordinates to locate the missing eggs.
Our teams found all the lost eggs and were rewarded with a big bag of goodies from the Easter bunny as a thank you.
Training doesn't have to be boring to learn and the team had fun.
If you are interested in learning new skills please contact the page for further information.

Off Road (4 Wheel) Driving and Recovery

Last weekend Northam and Districts State Emergency Service Unit conducted an off-road driving (4 Wheel Drive) course and a vehicle recovery course, with students Northam, Toodyay and Kalgoorlie with Instructors from Northam and Rockingham/Kwinana SES Units.

In the Department of Fire and Emergency Services the SES is the only division that performs vehicle recovery training, and they do this training due to the wide range of natural disasters they have to work in to assist their local community.

As can be seen from the photographs, the courses, although extremely demanding, did not prevent the students from enjoying themselves( most of the time).

In order to ensure the students are competent they have to be able drive in rough, sandy and muddy terrain , and recover vehicles from the same terrain. They have to convince the instructors they are competent in all phases of both courses. NOT AN EASY TASK.

The terrain really tested their skills. And they excelled. Well done to all students.

Last night Northam SES members took part in a Search and Rescue training exercise led by our District Officer.
The session gave our experienced members a chance to refresh and practise their skills, while also providing our newer members with valuable hands-on experience and familiarisation with search and rescue operations.
Training like this helps ensure our volunteers are ready to assist the community when it matters most.
If you’re interested in being part of a team that supports the Northam community during emergencies, we’d love to hear from you. Send us a message through the page or come along to training at 6:30 PM on Monday nights at our base on Henry Street, Northam.
