First training night of the year - where has that break gone.

Our crew refreshed our knowledge on Incident Management structures, Objectives, Strategies and Tasking.

We did some scenarios relating to our roles in mapping, radio communications and crew support.

Thanks to our Chief Bushfire Control Officer Justin for facilitating this evening.

We're all quickly learning far & wide how important it is to have a bushfire plan & actions in place when worse comes to worse. We all like to think it'll never happen to us but this season has been extremely busy unfortunately.
Please ensure you are safe, follow emergency WA, be vigilant & follow all bans, advice & especially evacuation notices if issued. It is in the best interest of your safety & wellbeing.
May all of us make the right choices by being prepared & hope we'll make it through unscathed.
Be safe & please don't rely only on 1st responders. Be fire safe before its too late.

🚨 YOUTH IN EMERGENCY SERVICES CADETS – RECRUITING FOR 2026 🚨
Adventure starts here.

Real skills. Real responsibility. Real experiences.

The Northam Youth in Emergency Services Cadets program gives young people aged 11–18 a unique opportunity to experience what emergency services are really like — training alongside career and volunteer emergency service professionals and gaining genuine insight into emergency service pathways and careers.

This program blends hands-on practical training with interactive, tactile, and engaging classroom-based learning — just like real emergency operations.

🔥 WHAT CADETS TRAIN IN

• Fireground operations
• Rescue & rope skills
• Emergency communications
• Navigation & field skills
• Real-world emergency first aid

👩‍🚒 LEARN FROM THE REAL THING

Cadets learn directly from career and volunteer professionals across emergency service agencies, gaining real-world insight, discipline, and experience that simply can’t be replicated in a classroom alone.

🧭 MORE THAN SKILLS — IT BUILDS PEOPLE

This program develops:
• Leadership and confidence
• Resilience and responsibility
• Teamwork and communication
• Lifelong friendships and a strong sense of belonging

Cadets are challenged, supported, and empowered — learning to trust themselves and each other.

⭐ A PROGRAM IN A CLASS OF ITS OWN

This is not a school program or a simulation.
It is a unique, community-based experience using real equipment, real scenarios, and real mentoring.

All uniforms and equipment are supplied.
Participation costs are kept to a minimum.
Places are limited.
